Tersten Flight
Tersten Flight is the name given to a complex series of socio-economic events that has led to immigration of young adults and skilled workers from the planet Tersten.
It began in 2298, a year following the Gaia Conflict, with young adults and families choosing to take advantage of the greater ties with the United Systems of Sol and the Second Lordanian Republic, leaving the planet in either in search of better prospects, or under the employ of countless organisations willing to hire them. The modern day 'Nevokie' term came about from these migrations, drawing reference to the American Dust Bowl, and the Okie migrants of their time.
While attempts were made to reverse this trend, such as President Perry Winters's economic plan, termed 'Perrynomics', which saw large scale industrial projects constructed across Tersten. Instead of attracting Terstener labour, many of these new construction opportunities brought skilled and capable off-worlders to the planet, who have since settled across the planet.
While not a serious crisis yet, it has been a source of criticism for past governments, including costing the incumbent government the 2300 election. More recent attempts have been made by new President Robert J. Mackenzie, who has focused political efforts on boosting culture, funding the arts, and revitalizing the Tersten tourism and science sector. Only time will tell if these methods will be successful.
