Sonia Bhattacharya

Sonia Bhattacharya was the second President of the Republic of Tersten, elected following the death of Ronald Mayweather. She served one term as President, between 2290 and 2295. Born in 2249 in Délite, Yuklid V, her family moved to Tersten in 2273 as part of a push by the People's Republic of Lordania to establish a corporate and technological site on the planet, which would become the modern day South Harelstone.
Bhattacharya was sympathetic to the Tersten Government-in-Exile, and joined their cause in 2277. Following the establishment of the modern Republic of Tersten, she became active in its politics, and was elected President in 2290. Her early presidency was marked with economic decline brought by the adjustment to the markets of the United Systems of Sol, and in 2292, Tersten was called into the Gaia Conflict against the Gilgamesh Confederation, a war that cost many Tersten lives, and cost Bhattacharya the presidency to D. A. Kuznetsov in 2295.
Post-presidency, she has returned to South Harelstone, where she remains active in their regional politics.
