"Onwards to Adventure" Report

General Summary

The last members of the once large adventuring party: Ülex, Chalice, and Undilon, with the newest member Deylin, continue their trek to try and bottle up the terrors they have unleashed.
It’s… difficult, to say the least. Working with a new member right after losing three of their own. But Chalice tries to make the most of it, asking the party cheerily how each member is and attempting to make small talk. Unfortunately, no one is really in the mood. They’re all tired, still travelling at a punishing pace and everyone is exhausted.
That’s why it is no surprise when two members of the party, Ülex and Undilon, both fail to notice any dangers (natural 1s will do that – and both of them rolled them!). Ülex gets the brunt of the bad luck, however.
As the party continues walking, suddenly Ülex falls, tripping and going straight through the ribcage of a rotting, half-eaten horse and interrupting the meal of two wyverns, who take offense to the humanoid trying to steal their meal.
They attack ferociously, and Ülex is unconscious within seconds. Chalice is able to get her back up, but not without a badly injured stomach. But Chalice’s wild magic isn’t done, and Ülex begins to float gently off of the ground as Chalice accidentally casts fly on the changeling.
Undilon is the next to go down, his rain of arrows catching one of the wyvern’s attention and subsequently being nearly bitten in half. Chalice gets him up too, but not without Undilon suffering a horrible wound across his chin, neck and shoulder that will scar horribly. Undilon retaliates with ferocity, killing his opponent with an arrow to the throat.
The other wyvern, focused on Ülex still, brings her down a second time with a stinger straight to her heart. Chalice is once again to the rescue, saving her and assisting in slaying the second wyvern.
Once the party is able to take a breath, thankful they did not die, the party continues on.
Unfortunately, their misfortune does not end there. They soon encounter a mudslide, which inhibits their progress. Reluctantly, the party turns around and finds an alternate path, heading toward the mountain floor.
As they continue through the woods, eagle-eyed Undilon notices something far off in the autumnal woods: a flash of purple, like a butterfly or bird’s wing, but for an instant. Chalice at first tries to cast firebolt towards the purple splotch, then message, but both seem to fade before they even connect with whatever the thing is.
Suspicious of having something watching them after the incident with the wyverns, Undilon lets loose an arrow. The sound, however, of the animal’s pained yelp melts the party’s hearts and they go to investigate. They find inside an iron cage a small purple faerie dragon, impaled on one of Undilon’s arrows.
Undilon feels horrible for causing the creature such pain and resolves to help free it. It is soon discovered that there is some sort of antimagic field around the cage, preventing the dragon from casting it’s own magic but also leaching the healing potions and cure wounds spells that Undilon and Ülex are trying to give the tiny dragon.
Deylin tries to help break the cage, but is wholly unsuccessful. It’s almost comical as he tries to break the lock, fingers scrabbling for purchase.
Eventually it is Ülex able to release the dragon from its cage and help heal it – and it is Ülex the dragon shows it’s gratitude to, returning with a feather token and offering it to her. The changeling gladly takes the offering, pocketing it as the party continues south towards Brenbrooke .
