House Phrandusk

House Phrandusk is one of Graepor's most controversial noble houses—despised by old money, beloved by the slums. They trace their lineage not to ancient bloodlines or heroic battles, but to coastal raiders who once plundered the eastern shores of Aeshethar. When Graepor fell under Dominion rule, the Phrandusk clan bent the knee to House Eber and was granted nobility in exchange for loyalty and maritime strength.

Despite wealth and title, they’ve never shed their rough edges. They still rule over Graepor’s slums and waterfront alleys, where they command respect through shared hardship, fistfights, and open revelry. Where other nobles host masked balls, Phrandusk throws fire-lit street feasts. Where others wield diplomacy, Phrandusk settles debts with a broken nose and a handshake.

Structure

  • Baron Gorrin Phrandusk (Patriarch) – A hulking man with a steel jaw from an old shipwreck duel, Gorrin is more warlord than lord. He governs with booming presence, wields a mace in ceremonial meetings, and demands loyalty above law. Said to have fought a frost troll unarmed—and won.
  • Dessa Phrandusk (Gorrin’s daughter) – Known as “The Ember,” Dessa runs the public festivals and fighting pits. She is ruthless in business, charismatic in public, and a brilliant manipulator of popular opinion. She keeps Phrandusk beloved, and feared.
  • Yerrik Phrandusk (Gorrin’s younger brother) – Oversees slum management and protection rackets. Cold-eyed and cunning, he’s the shadow side of Phrandusk’s charm—quiet violence, extortion, and swift punishment.
  • Koan Phrandusk (Bastard Cousin, unofficial emissary) – A smooth-talking fixer who drifts between criminal crews and merchant houses, arranging trade, protection, or vengeance. An ideal contact for adventurers.

Culture

Key cultural traits:

  • Strength earns respect — whether in battle, trade, or the tavern.
  • No shame in roots — they take pride in their raider ancestry, considering it proof of endurance.
  • Governing from within — they don’t lord over the poor; they drink with them.
  • Tradition through adaptation — they reject aristocratic airs but enforce strict honor codes in the undercity.

Public Agenda

House Phrandusk leans on authenticity, strength, and survival. Their noble seat, the Chainhall, is a sprawling iron-wrought manor built atop the foundations of old shipyards, filled with smoke, stories, and scars. Its halls echo with laughter, sparring, and sea shanties—a home of bruises and brotherhood.

Phrandusk’s festivals, fights, and coin earn them true influence among the lower classes. Their “Bloodbrawl Arenas”—illegal but culturally accepted—are as vital to Graepor’s rhythm as markets and temples. Fighters rise from the gutter to minor fame, often earning employment as dock guards or mercenaries.

They also maintain a slum watch, a loose guard composed of ex-criminals, brawlers, and loyal commonfolk, offering order in districts the official city guard has abandoned. While chaotic, their rule is more reliable than the silence of corruption from wealthier houses.
