Greenwood Grove
The Greenwood Grove is one of the oldest Eladrin enclaves in Logos, nestled deep within the vast, living expanse of the Greenwood, a forest that sprawls across much of the southern North Blight. The Greenwood is a realm of towering trees, thick underbrush, and an eerie sense of timelessness — its heart almost untouched by mortal wars or the scars of corruption that creep across the world.
The Eladrin of Greenwood Grove are stewards not just of the woods themselves, but of the deep relationships with the animals of the forest. Greenwood Eladrin embody a fierce guardianship, living in symbiosis with the creatures of the wood.
Government
The Greenwood Grove is ruled by a Circle of Chiefs, each representing a different region of the Greenwood or a specific sphere of stewardship (such as the health of beasts, the health of the riverways, or the defense of sacred groves).
Their leader is Vaelor Windshade, the "First Chief," known for his keen mind and even keener ears — it’s said he can hear the cry of a wounded sapling from miles away.
The Circle maintains peaceful relations with South Town to the east, acknowledging their care for the forest’s resources. South Town is granted permission to harvest deadfall and select mature trees, a rare and hard-earned trust from the Eladrin.
Defences
Though not warlike, the Greenwood Eladrin are fearsome in defense. Their warriors are often mounted on bonded beasts:
- Snow leopards serve as mounts and scouts in the colder northern edges.
- Moss bears — heavily muscled bears with greenish pelts streaked with lichens — haul goods or serve as armored mounts in war.
- Giant river otters patrol waterways, used by Eladrin messengers.
- Forest elk the size of draft horses bear archers through the deeper woods.
- Wolvenkin — packs of larger, semi-intelligent wolves — protect the most sacred groves.
Guerrilla tactics, ambushes from the treetops, and a deadly understanding of the terrain make the Greenwood warriors nearly unbeatable within their home.
Industry & Trade
The Greenwood Grove trades sparingly with outsiders, offering rare herbs, woven livingwood crafts, and tamed beasts for dire circumstances. Their economy, if it could be called that, revolves more around barter and sacred exchange than currency.
Training in beast-bonding, healing herbs unknown outside the Greenwood, and wood from trees that grow already shaped (such as "bow-trees" or "cradle-vines") are considered priceless gifts, only granted to allies of proven respect.
Tourism
The Greenwood Eladrin form tight-knit communities hidden within the trees, their homes grown rather than built — shaped from the living wood through druidic arts. Towering spirals of woven branches, thick vines serving as bridges, and hollowed trunks serve as homes, watchposts, and communal halls.
One of the most distinctive features of Greenwood life is the Bonding of the Beast — a rite where Eladrin and beast forge a partnership of mutual respect. These bonds are not ownership but kinship: the beasts choose their Eladrin as much as the Eladrin choose them. Once bonded, they act as trusted companions, scouts, workers, and sometimes warriors.
