The product of a brief but passionate love affair between an elven assassin and a human bookbinder, Ryssa embraces both sides of her heritage but ended up following in her mother's footsteps.
Raised by her adoring, if slightly scattered-brained father Guyon Tannum, Ryssa had a happy and comfortable childhood. But her mother, the infamous elven assassin Valxina, wasn't about to let her daughter go into the world with the fortitude, wit, and training to protect herself.
Ryssa excelled at her mother's training, and chose to become involved with the criminal underworld. Ambitious and clever, Ryssa quickly made her way to the heart of the Court of the Rogue and deposed the former King of Thieves to take the throne for herself.

After claiming the "throne" in her teens, she's managed to maintain her hold for an unusually long time - over 15 years now. In addition to an incredibly sharp wit and impressive skills with a blade, Ryssa's unusually long reign may be attributed to her popularity fostered by an open, accepting policy towards those cast out of Audemar's rigid mainstream society and a vigilant protectiveness of particularly vulnerable populations.
Although she must remain cold and unyielding in her professional life, her fiercely protective nature shows a window into a kind heart that holds to a deep personal sense of justice and fairness.
