House of stories.

A Place of Stories

"In their language, tomak is a word for stories and teral is word derived from their word for place. This structure I'm in is literally the place of stories."

Despite the name of the structure it serves many functions - shelter, meeting hall, communal house, and school to name a few. This name then emphasizes how important stories are to them. This large structure with a high ceiling is a communal gathering place and the center of the communities of Clan Rakrantra

Construction

First a shallow hole is dug into the ground. Then logs are laid to form the walls of the building. Next the triangular frame of the ceiling is built in place while dirt is sloped against the sides. The roof is made of large leaves that are dried and then soaked in boiled animal fats to make them waterproof and prevent drying out once again.
The roof hangs far over the sides to shed water away from the building to try and prevent flooding. The dirt sloped against the sides is taken from around the building. This helps shed water as well by channeling water into these dugout channels.
Inside the structure is a raised platform in the center or at one end. It is from this raised position that an individual addresses the others.

History

If the stories are to be believed, the tomakteral is a design built by Toranti and Kaztora when establishing their village after their long journey. This would date the design to at least as far back as the Time of Darkness though other stories in the Tomaktur seem to take place during that time which would place this design to an era even before that.
