The Calm

Stormless Space in the Floor

"Over the last week six merchant vessels have been attacked along the rimward. Eighteen people have been killed and twenty-four injured. The entire cargo of the ships has been plundered by pirates flying a black flag. The merchant houses are demanding protection for their vessels. In addition, one vessel, the Arkross, has gone missing.
According to all of the merchants the pirates arrive quickly, raid the supply ships, and disappear faster than they arrived. They are very adept at navigating the Floor but it is doubtful they could remain in there for an extended period of time. They must have a base nearby but we have been unable to find it.
All of the ships that have been attacked have been following the lower rimward current. These winds do not change as the seasons do and the merchants transport perishable goods that won't survive a trip on the slower currents. Our search of the skies will continue for the time being."

Geography

This hidden calm within the Floor is unique to the best of anyone's knowledge and only the Stormfleet pirates know about it. This space forms a large sphere inside the unending storm that provides a safe, albeit dark, haven. Lightning rarely strikes into the Calm but rain often comes in from any part of the edge of the sphere.

Fauna & Flora

The eyeless Arkun's Bird inhabits the Calm. They dive into the storm after the fish that live in there honing in on their electric charge. The birds espouse a thick, black fluid from their mouths which makes them appear even more horrifying than they would otherwise. The pirates believe these creatures to be bad luck and scare them off of their ships or kill them.
Shineslime is not native to the Calm but has been brought here by the Stormfleet pirates. The story goes that one pirate returned to their base with the slime on the side of their ship and was challenged to eat the slime. The slime proved to be an important food-source for the starving pirates as well as a beacon in the darkness of the Floor.

Natural Resources

There are no natural resources within the Calm except for water in the form of rains.
