Summer Camp 2022 Pledge

Steel or Keel

"So I failed my initial goal last year of having a stat block or environmental hazard for every submission. I was not able to make every article directly relate to running a tabletop game in Linebound. This year, I am simply going to embrace worldbuilder's disease and write about whatever catches my fancy at the time. Writing when inspiration strikes helps keep me in high spirits!"
— Captain Paul

Steel or Keel

What would Summer Camp be without going a little overboard? 41 articles, 300 words each. I don't think I have double diamond in me but all the power to those that do! And as before the Iron Gorge compels me to stream my efforts. An ongoing D&D game takes up my Monday nights but I will try to stream the other six days of the week in the evenings around 8PM MDT.

Beyond the Orthlands

Much of my writing about the Orthlands has been in relation to its lower neighbor Grara. I will continue to expand on the people of the Orthlands and also create a new region opposite Grara with which they will interact.   I am going to go full worldbuilder's disease and just write about whatever I want. My gaming group has plans for a different game next so I do not need to be in any hurry to write about anything specifically related to tabletop. Worldbuilding is fun, to me it is a hobby in itself and I am OK with that.   There are four themes on which the prompts will be based. My thoughts are as follows:
  • Expanse: This is why I decided to develop the Orthlands further, it is a giant praerie afterall. The entire region needs to be made more diverse and interesting than that but it is a starting point.
  • Leadership: Many of the Orth are nomadic and each group will have people in positions of leadership. It would be good to develop several of these groups and their relationships with each other.
  • Discovery: While I could present the information about the region from the view of someone exploring and documenting it, I think it would be much more interesting to see the Orth explore a wild region.
  • Monstrous: This new wild region can have dangerous animals and tricky fae but this shouldn't rule out brutal people among the Orth.

The Orthlands Right Now

Right now the Orthlands are a mess of articles from various writing challenges and many are old and use formatting I have moved away from. I will do my best to fix these before Summer Camp begins. There are only a small number of articles and some are only placeholders with a single sentence. The articles are:

Stub Article

This article is just a stub for now and will be expanded upon later.

Old Article

This article was written in the past and does not meet my current standards for any number of article quality, layout, or content.

In-Progress Article

This article is being worked on, perhaps not at this very moment, but it is being worked on.

Inspiration Images

The inspiration for the Orthlands has always come from my reading of the manga A Bride's Story and the cultures presented within. For the images below, the goat can be used for many things like wool and meat, the horse is an important part of the life of the Orth, and the Kazakh clothes are the inspiration for the level of intracacy and detail that the Orth put into their garments.
