"Anchim's blade - the Orthsbane - I believe it is now in the possession of the People of the Dog. That cursed weapon should be broken and thrown off the edge of Breharan so it can fall into the Void and never be seen again. May it be struck by lightning as it passes through the Floor."— Tasiir of the People of the Horse
A Murderer's Blade
Orthsbane was just a normal knife until
Anchim traveled to the
Orthlands and used it to murder many
Orth.
The
Orth believe that the blade bears the ill will of its
previous owner but are divided on what to do with the weapon. Some believe it should be destroyed and that destroying the blade will let them move on past the events of the past.
Others know that nothing can wipe away the memories of the dead and believe that the knife serves as a reminder of what has happened and what could happen again. Despite this, they maintain their immense hospitality to outsiders and know that most people do not travel with malicious intent burdening their hearts and their minds.
A Simple Weapon
Not much is known about the
Slasher but if the Orthsbane is any indication, he was a person of humble origins. The knife is a large but otherwise common instrument. A plain wooden handle holds the tang of a metal blade of decent quality. There is nothing fancy or decorative about this item except for the tally marks he carved into the handle, one for each person killed. This tally is larger than the number of
Orth that were killed, indicating that he killed on his way to the
Orthlands.

The Parentslayer
The knife killed many people, among them the parents of a then newborn girl named
Ahriin. These were the final victims of
Anchim the Slasher as he fled
Iyorii toward
Yaliru's Throat and was never seen again.
No life lost can ever be replaced but among the
Orth, raising children is more of a communal effort than elsewhere on
Breharan. The little
Ahriin was raised by all the
People of the Dog - and their
dogs - and eventually became one of the respected
windspeakers at only the age of fifteen.
"The windspeakers often choose to train orphans because the first of them was an orphan. As much of an honour as it is to be chosen for this role, I wish it wasn't me."— Ahriin of the People of the Dog
