Fable of Mosquito and Cow
The sky was clear and blue as could be. Cow was eating a tuft of grass when he heard something by his ear. "Hello Cow." said Mosquito. "Greetings Mosquito." said Cow. "It is perfect weather." "It is. No wind to blow me away." responded Mosquito. The two parted ways for a time. When next they met the cold wind had arrived and it would not cease. "Greetings again Mosquito." spoke Cow. "Greetings." mimed Mosquito. "Cow, could I hide in your fur? This wind will blow me away." "Of course. I am strong enough to carry you. I am glad to help." said Cow. The wind did not stop. Eventually the winter set in and Cow could find no grass to eat. "Cow, would you share your blood with me? I cannot find any food and you had plenty in the summer." asked Mosquito. "Of course my friend. It was a good season." answered Cow. And so Mosquito began to drink. "I am tired. It is the cold. The winter wind is relentless." said Cow. So the friends took shelter in the valley and fell asleep. They woke again in the early spring. "Come Cow. We must move before the melt floods the valley." warned Mosquito. "Yes, of course." answered Cow. Cow tried his hardest to move the two from the valley but could not. He did not have the energy. "I cannot. I simply need food. Bring me some grass and we can go." Cow asked of Mosquito. "Of course my friend." said Mosquito. But Mosquito could not fly. He had grown too full over the winter and too heavy now to fly. When the flood came both drowned and were washed away.
