The Wehrmacht

The primary military force of Korbal is known as the Wehrmacht, from the old Korbalian, meaning "The Strength to Defend"
While it has been used for more than merely defense at many times during the nation's history, the protection of Korbal and it's people has always been the driving force behind the soldiers who choose to join up.

Deployment Structure

The Kingdom of Korbal can field a full army for each Bundesland, which makes for 9 Armies in total.
While these armies are commanded by officers primarily drawn from their own regions, each is comprised of regiments drawing recruits from all of the regions, with the various races interspersed through all the various unit types. It is true, however that in spite of the intentions of equal dispersal, some races show preferences and natural proficiencies for different roles.
Each army is subdivided for logistical reasons on deployment:
  • Each Army has 4 Aufteilungen
  • Each Aufteilung has 5 Regimente
  • Each Regiment has 5 Battalionen, one of which is usually a Support Regiment, focusing on supply and logistics
  • Each Battalion has 4 Kompanie
  • Each Kompanie has either 5 Truppen, or 4 Truppen and 5 Kader of specialists
A single Truppe at full strength consists of 50 soldiers, including Non-Commissioned Officers, while a Kader is 10
This means that a Kompanie is 250 soldiers,
A Battalion is 1,000 soldiers,
A Regiment is 5,000 soldiers,
Each Aufteilung is 25,000 soldiers,
Each Army can therefore field an equivelant of 100,000 soldiers if required.   The various subdivisions are named in the following manner:
  • Each Army is named after it's Bundesland, i.e. The Sinndarian Army, for Sinndarim is headed by Lord Killian Sanguine, the Wehrfuhrste of that region, who alos holds the rank of Feld Marschall.
  • Each Aufteilung is named based on the region's tradition. The Sinndarian Aufteilungen are named after the four directions, North, South, East, and West. i.e. The Sinndarian Army's Northern Aufteilung
  • Each Regiment is numbered under it's Aufteilung, i.e. the 1st Northern Sinndarian Regiment would be followed by the 2nd Northern Sinndarian Regiment.
  • The Battalions are named in a similarly functional manner, i.e. the 1st Northern Sinndarian Heavy Infantry is a Battalion of the 1st Northern Aufteilung of the Sinndarian Army, primarily comprised of Heavy Infantry.
  • At the Kompanie level, the naming becomes more unique, with names reflecting aspects of their Battalion's history, i.e. the first kompanie of the 1st Northern Sinndarian Heavy Infantry is known as Spite Kompanie.
  • At the Truppe level, the naming conventions return to a simple subdivision, i.e. the 1st Spite Truppe
  • Similarly, the Kader of a Kompanie are named simply, but specify their combat role, i.e. the 1st Spiteful Scouts
