Solare Ethnicity in Libertas | World Anvil

Solare

The Solare are a near-sun culture, occupying the inner system on the planets of Phantasmos and Janus. The Solare eek out a living servicing and maintaining the vast network of dyson satellites orbiting the Libertan sun, and selling energy to the wider solar system. Their culture has developed a series of rules of honour, necessary in such a harsh environment. The planets of the Solare are constantly bombarded with radiation, and they have come into conflict with The Symposium many times. The other cultures of Libertas have attempted on several occasions to seize control of the Solare's dyson networks, to break their monopoly on solar energy.   Solarian life is lived by the Six Rules, which dictate how hospitality, friendship, marriage, war and taxation should be done. Intense social pressure enforces these rules, and consistent violation may see troublemakers tarred as Outsiders. Outsiders may be exiled, or even killed, depending on the intensity of their violation. The Solare operate no courts of law, and there is no appeal against being exiled by your peers.

History

The Solarian people draw their roots from the Beijing Station, in orbit of Terminus. Originally an anti-corporate community established by dissenters against the The Symposium. Motivated by inequality, the community drew many members and prospered for a time. Corporate pressure on the station's inhabitants grew throughout the early 400s. The community dissolved in E2.Y444, unable to afford the supplies to maintain the station, and many of its members returned to more traditional settlements.   However, a small core of members manned the Atum-Ra, a former cargo ship, and departed the station for the previously unexplored planetoid of Janus. The Atum-Ra would be used for the first two years as a mobile base before Grand Station was built.
