Rainbow Wart Species in Libertas | World Anvil

Rainbow Wart

Rainbow Wart is a small, beautiful plant. Boasting colourful, multi-hued leaves that shift colours in the light, it belies its name of wart. The tubers and leaves of the plant are both extremely potent psychotropics after processing.   Rainbow Wart was developed and designed by Danu's River's leading geneticists. Derived from the old-world drug Marijuana, the intensity of Rainbow Wart was increased by modifying genetic code transported from Earth. It was also changed to be hardier, and grow faster. To mark the difference between the two drugs, and avoid confusion, it was given its beautiful rainbow hue.   Raw Rainbow Wart is highly toxic, but it can be processed into a street drug, known variously as Warthog, Reed, Iris High, or Hueweed. The knowledge of processing techniques for making these drugs were once restricted to Danu's River, but over time street producers found other ways to process the drug. With varying levels of success. Some of these modified versions - cut with other drugs - are far more virulent, and dangerous, than the pure drug.   The followers of The River use it to enter trances believed to allow them to attain prophetic visions. It is an important component of ceremonies of The River as a result. They have attempted to stamp out trade in the street drugs, viewing it largely as a defilement of their holy use of Rainbow Wart. However, Rainbow Wart can be grown easily and in large quantities, making it one of the most common sources of narcotics for the general population.   It is commonly grown in hydroponic farms, with one of the largest producers being the Ea Syndicate in vast farms at Persephone.
