The Starberry Stain is a skin condition that causes discoloration in the skin of sentient creatures in the purple-red hue. The stain is usually caused by a brush with the supernatural - not the inherently magic, but the unexplained and the outside the scope of the real. This can occur in all ages, sometimes even happening before birth. Ranging from the size of a mole to something that can discolor a whole arm in uneven patterning, the stain has a variety of responses across the continent of Levis, but its apparent rarity (that size thing being one factor, the stigma in some cultures being the other) means that shock upon first meeting does seem to be an average (though not good) response.
While able to be picked up in the womb, the stain is not genetic, not that it hasn't been known for a loving parent to paint themselves in an effort to make a child feel well loved and accepted.
