Uflen

One of three halfling nations, formed after the War of the Halfling North. Bordering the Orc woods, this halfling nation is the most militaristic of the three. A history of turmoil, with rapidly changing leaders has earned this nation the title of the most unstable, with a looming threat of all-out civil war.

Structure

Uflen is the only halfling nation to have a monarchy as its system of government. Each king they've had has viewed the role as power absolute, and while this is true, each one has abused the power to try and shape the nation into something it isn't, causing an uprising each time. This has made Uflen the nation with the most kings in its history despite it being the youngest.

Culture

Much like the draconic nation, Doh'garus, they were forged in the fires of war. They were the only halfling nation to hold on to this militaristic origin, and are now the most militaristic of the halfling nations. They value strength is a similar way to the draconic nations

Public Agenda

The nation is too chaotic, and unstable to have a known, or clear agenda, or goal outside of restoring peace amongst itself.

Assets

Its military is smaller than most other nations, but is larger than the other halfling nations. They forge their own weapons, and considering their size, they are quite impressive, and well built, though they do not rival anything crafted by the brimbarians, or draconin.

History

Uflen's history is one of strife from before it was formed at the end of the War of the Halfling North. The nation's territory consists of the halfling city-states on the northern end of the western landmass. During the war, it was called the Uflen Alliance, uflen being the halfling word for "western." After the war, they had become one nation, under one king. This king had a vison of how the nation should be. He turned the nation into a militaristic regime. The military was used as the nation's police force, and massive walls were constructed on its border with the Orc Woods. The militaristic nature of the newly founded nation soon drifted into tyranny. Innocent people were dying at the hands of the military because of their 'guilty until proven innocent' policy. This eventually drove the people to rise against the power. The halfling who led them seized the power for himself.   Once again, he tried to shape the nation into something it was not, and once again, his view turned into tyranny. He too was overthrown, and killed. This cycle continued for centuries. Only after the Years of Chaos, when the Children of the Eternals cult nearly fulfilled their patrons' goal of cleansing their world of mortal life, did the nation finally have a reason to truly unite. They, were the only ones who were prepared for violence, as they were about to have another uprising. They turned their rage towards the cult, and kept their land.   Peace had finally settled upon this nation, for a time. Their still militaristic nature would slowly escalate again. It has been doing so since the beginning of the third age, and now, one man rises, and speaks against this. He has already united a large portion of the nation's populace. The current king is threatening a military response if this does not cease. If military response is taken, it would not be any simple uprising, or coup, but it would be an all-out civil war. The halfling nation of New Moonfall has tried to influence both sides into standing down, to no effect. Currently, this civil-war seem inevitable. Both sides are waiting for the other to strike.

Demography and Population

Most of the populace is in the southern half of the nation, closest to all the major trade ports, and where the climate is warmest.

Foreign Relations

They have lose ties to Doh'garus, simply because of their similar history, being forged from war, though Doh'garus has openly stated they will not take part in the civil war should one arise. Despite sharing a border with them, they have no relations with the Orc Woods. They do, however have close trade with Heodar, and Brimbaria. In exchange for materials for building their weapons, and armor, Uflen offers lumber, being a heavily forested area, while such forests are scarce in Heodar, and Brimbaria.

Laws

Apart from the obvious, the laws that govern the populace are as follows. No civilian, under any circumstances, is allowed to keep, or bear arms against the military, or any other form of authority. Any violent activity, or recreation of violence is to be stopped, and punished the moment it is discovered. When under prosecution, the suspect is to be considered guilty until proven innocent, as to avoid false denial in a case in which no evidence, incriminating, or non is provided, or found.

Education

The people of Uflen receive a fairly standard education. While their technological advancement does not come anywhere near the level of the Brimbarians, they are around the same area of advancement as Heodar.

Infrastructure

The entire southern shore of the nation is lined with ports to make way for their imports, and exports. The entire western border with the orcs is protected by a massive wall.
