Varmaul Forrest

The linish are fervent in their claim that the varmaul are nothing but violent beasts but there appears to be more to the assertion than one might think.    Deep in the heart of the Eldeer Wood forest, twig and stone huts of primitive make can be found. They are typically constructed using natural materials such as branches, twigs, stones, and mud, and are designed to provide shelter and protection from the elements. Twig huts are constructed using a framework of thin, flexible branches or twigs that are woven together to create a sturdy, yet lightweight structure. Stone huts, on the other hand, are also constructed using large, heavy stones that are stacked on top of each other to create walls and a roof. The stones are carefully chosen and arranged to create a stable, durable structure that can withstand the elements.   The varmaul that can be found in these constructs are typically organized into social groups or classes, based on factors such as roles and the ability to assert dominance. There doesn't appear to be any jailing constructs as an offending varmaul seems to usually have two options: tribute a peace offering befitting the magnitude of the crime or be beaten to death by the tribe.

Geography

The forests to the far south of Erlin are typically tall and densely packed, creating a canopy that blocks out much of the sunlight and limits the growth of plants on the forest floor. The most common tree species found in a thick forest can vary depending on the location, but may include species such as oak, maple, beech, birch, and conifers like spruce and pine.   The understory of the vast forest is characterized by a diverse mix of shrubs, ferns, and other plants, which provide habitat and food for a variety of wildlife. The forest floor is often covered in a thick layer of leaf litter, which helps to retain moisture and nutrients in the soil.    The majority southern Erlin is just one vast forest called "Elder wood." Names because of its eternia trees that never stop growing, some are said to reach higher than the mountains. Most of all Elder Wood is known to be the home of the Varmaul but is home to a wide range of other beasts and wildlife, including mammals like deer, bears, and wolves, as well as birds, insects, and reptiles.

Localized Phenomena

The Eternia Tree:   The Eternia Tree is known for its incredible growth rate, with some stories claiming that it can grow several feet per day in its infancy. As the Eternia Tree grows, it becomes home to a vast array of plant and animal life. Its branches are covered in thick layers of moss and ferns, and vines and other climbing plants wrap around its trunk and branches. Birds and other animals make their nests in the tree's branches, while small mammals and insects live in the hollows and crevices of the trunk.   Despite its massive size, the Eternia Tree is said to be a gentle and benevolent presence in the forest. It provides shelter and food for a wide range of creatures, and its leaves and branches are said to have magical properties that can heal the sick and injured.   Legends also say that the Eternia Tree is guarded by a powerful forest spirit, who watches over the tree and ensures that it is protected from harm. Those who seek to harm the tree or its inhabitants are said to be cursed by the forest spirit and doomed to suffer misfortune for the rest of their days.
Dominant Species: Varmaul https://www.worldanvil.com/w/legacy-wars3A-ferrathar-nations-savaric/a/varmaul-ethnicity?preview=true?   Economy: The only existing economy in the Varmaul forests is on consisting entirely of trade.    Government: Many tribes are strong enough to survive on their own, but others depend on alliances to compensate for low population or hunters. In general, a government made up of united tribes would be led by a "council" of Alpha males from each of the participating tribes. The council would make decisions on behalf of the entire group, using a consensus-based approach that takes into account the perspectives and needs of each tribe. It is said that these councils would typically be responsible for making decisions on matters such as war and peace.
Dominant Religion/Deity: All varmaul, regardless of tribe or behavior, revere a construct found in every village known as the "burial stone." It is in this mass of stone the buried dead and additional stones are built atop them. The varmaul not only gather at this mountain of stones in some kind of funeral behavior but some are even seen laying at the stones in prayer. Because Alpha males are often seen displaying this behavior at burial stones, it is believed the tribes go here to seek advice from the ancesteres.
