Lith Terrin

The only major enclave of wood elves in Savura, Lith Terrin is to be found at the heart of the Veilwood, a deciduous forest that stretches over a hundred miles in length, from the river Posso in the north to the Rekten in the south. Its origins are, like those of many raths, somewhat obscure - the ancient epics tell of three mages who came together at the time of the fall of the Empire of Kataris to weave a web of illusions over the forest in order to provide a refuge for those fleeing the violence that was engulfing the collapsing empire.   Following the fall of the Katari Empire, Lith Terrin became one of the three parties involved in the Greenstone Alliance that controlled the Vixion Plains from 552 AK until the Alderni conquest of Cameri and the subsequent capitulation of Lapis in 694 AK. Erastes Tideborn attempted to annex the Veilwood in 695AK, but was unable to establish a foothold in the forest; after six months of fruitless campaigning she called off the invasion, and negotiated a treaty with Lith Terrin, in which the elves were guarenteed their independence in exchange for some strictly limited rights for the Alderni to harvest wood from the outermost parts of the forest.   The settlement of Lith Terrin itself consists of a number of semi-permanent dwellings and tents arrayed around a clearing containing an ancient and heavily weathered humanoid statue, at which converge a number of ley lines; this is said to method by which the defensive illusions - the veils of the Veilwood - were created and empowered. It is known as a place of safety, and some claim that though the illusions which once cloaked the Veilwood have now for the most part faded, those who intend harm to the wood elves are unable to find the settlement due to the magic that still resides there.   Lith Terrin played a relatively active role in the Second Savuran War for Independence, having first formally sided with the rebels in the mid 1330’s following repeated Alderni inclusions into the Veilwood in violation of their treaty with Erastes Tideborn in 695AK. Their most notable involvement was at the Battle of the Ford  in 1340, when they launched a surprise attack into the flanks of the Alderni forces attempting to cross the river Rekten to take the town of Bregzana, ultimately resulting in the army routing and the collapse of the Northern front. They are also credited with the assassination of several high-ranking Alderni officers, including that of  Duke Arturo Riddacci van Tuerbroek, the infamous Butcher of Fianicci .   Since the war, Lith Terrin has continued to slowly open their borders to the Savurans. Whilst the Veilwood is, for administrative purposes, part of the territory of Autocratia Vinzaglio, Lith Terrin was granted - by the personal dispensation of the Dictator - a great degree of autonomy, and is for all practical purposes a self-governing entity. Referred to as Silva Terrini, the wood-elves have been promised significant representation in the Senate in return for their assistance in the war, though the precise details have yet to be ratified.
