Chesk Confederacy
Founded in 1336, the Chesk Confederacy was formed in response to an unusual prophecy, which consistently manifested through all forms of divination attempted by goblins in the Vale of Chesk - even those methods which should not have been able to produce an answer in that form resulted in the same prophecy being recieved.
Quite what this was all supposed to mean was unclear, but it was enough to jog the three tribes into a flurry of activity. Suddenly united by a shared purpose, the goblins of the Vale of Chesk reluctantly banded together under the leadership of the Eels of Cheskin. Having no clear answers to any of the questions posed by this strange turn of events, the now-unified goblins have been sending emissaries and agents out across Kataris in search of answers
The Confederacy consists of three constituent tribes: the Eels of Cheskin, the Wasps of Kiskaviskir, and the Badgers of Taryevko.
The Chesk Prophecy
The looming threat which stands over the Vale of Chesk is not well-understood, but it is undeniable. Since 1336, all oracles, auguries and haruspices conducted by goblins within the Vale have given the same answer, word for word, often by surprising or inexplicable methods:“When Tchokayahattak from timeless sleep returns to the world, then by the Throne of the Stars may that which was Shattered be Made Whole; yet should fall either the Wasp, or the Badger, or the Eel, then shall Night’s Kingdom be victorious over them all”The nature of Tchokayahattak was at the time unclear (though is now understood to be a lost city in the Desolation; likewise the reference to the Throne of the Stars was obscure, though is now suspected to refer to the The Fourth Paragon . “That Which Was Shattered” is a term sometimes used to refer to the eusocial bond of the goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears, which was broken by the Empire of Kataris, leading to the collapse of their ancient civilization. The Wasp, the Badger, and the Eel are assume to indicate the tribes of Kiskaviskir, Taryevko, and Cheskim respectively; and as for the victory of Night’s Kingdom, while none are certain, there is a strong suspicion among many that this may refer to the massing forces of the undead gathering beyond the Barrier Lake. That this prophecy, delivered time and again, word for word, was somehow linked to the Vale of Chesk was beyond question - not only did it refer to the symbols of the three tribes, but it swiftly became apparent that this strange occurrence was only affecting divinations occurring within the Vale itself, and that it was not affecting any diviners or soothsayers who were not goblins.
The Omen Seekers
In the years since the unification of the Confederacy, numerous agents have been sent abroad to discover anything that they can about the “Chesk Prophecy”, embedding themselves in urban goblin societies or making contact with other tribes in the hope of finding some clue as to the meaning of the omen. The hobgoblins of Imrat al-Dhul were likewise approached, and have shown some interest in the prophecy. These networks have been extremely effective - especially with the covert funding of the Omen-Seekers by a number of senior officers within the Taghmata. Over a few short years, they Omen-Seekers have built up a wide-ranging, albeit unconventional spy network, more or less without the notice of the major powers - which suits the Confederacy’s interests perfectly.
