Ashoan Preserves

The Mo'Kmane people have always been one with nature. From their ancient traditions of bonding to their sacred animals, to their philosophy of technological progress and development. They have always strived to be in harmony with the world around them. As they spread across the stars they tried to continue to bond with other animals but it rarely worked. This threatened to end the tradition of their sacred bonds and so the Ashoan Preserve was created.
The Preserves are a biodome with a standardized shape as well as habitats. Utilizing the seven primary geographies of their homeworld, they were able to bring their sacred animals across the stars with them so that future generations could continue to bond. Some worlds have added several native animals that have the ability to bond. This has caused some Mo’Kmane to travel across the void to find the perfect companion.

Creation of a preserve: The Preserves are a standardized shape of an hexigon. Some preserves are created off world and are shipped to their destination. These tend to be the smaller 100 mile across preserves. The larger ones have to have soil samples taken first so that they can ensure that the plants can survive. If the soil cannot harbor the plants needed the local authorities will choose either to dig down and place a barrier and import the correct soil or to have the plants retro-engineered to thrive in the alien soil. Whether altering the genetics of the plants and thus forcing the animals to adapt is a controversial topic among the Mo’Kmane people.
A preserve will then have genetic library sent to them of animals so that they can begin populating. Once the park is considered populated and stable they will then open the park to the public.

Geography

The Ashoan Preserves typically have seven specialized habitats. They are the grasslands/savannas, forests/rain forests/jungles, tundra, desert, swamp, oceans/islands, mountains. The design is set up where the mountain is in the middle acting as a natural divider between the habitats. Walls are then created to establish boundaries between the habitats. These walls run from the mountain to the outer walls. Each wall has its own dedicate shield generators that help to maintain the climate that the region needs to flourish.
Some habitats is several additional habitats.
The forests/rain forests/jungles region typically feature a volcano. The Oceans have depths ranging from 1 to 3 miles deep. Mountains have caverns.

Fauna & Flora

Sacred animals are those animals from the Mo'Kmane homeworld the were infused with the power of the Source and thus became able to create powerful bonds. These bonds are crafted through the use of organic crystals that grow near the source. This is the only known use for the crystals as they do not seem to react with the energizing effect of the Source and thus can be used outside its radius. The Mo'Kmane people have learned to attune the crystals to themselves so that when the creature is given the crystal the bond will be strong.
The bond between a person and animal is empathetic, telepathic and physical. This bond will remain so long as both members are still alive. Some bonds have been passed down through blood relations. Other animals have been seen to be loyal to a family even after the bond has failed, acting as though they are still bonded.
The largest Ashoan Preserve on record is within the Unicity of Coplexus Major and is nearly 7,000 miles across.
The Tree of Life: Actually part fungi, the Tree of Life can grow up to 500 feet tall with a canopy spread of a quarter mile. The roots are able to extend for hundreds of miles and have specialized fungal roots that can attach to other plants. It is called the Tree of Life as it acts as a sort of biological network that connects with all the flora within its root's range. It uses this connection to provide nutrients for flora that are struggling by moving excess nutrients from other plants and then providing them to the deficient plant.
Placed within the heart of the mountain habitat the Tree of Life is monitored and studied by research specializes and preserve managers. The preserve managers work to diagnose the health of the entire park through the tree, having developed a sophisticated system that helps them to pinpoint areas of the park that are in disharmony.
Some habitats have standard additional habitats.
The forests/rain forests/jungles region typically feature a volcano.
The Oceans/islands have depths ranging from 1 to 3 miles deep along with shallow corals around the edge.
Mountains have caverns.
Grasslands/savanna features plateaus

Rangers live out in the wilds of the preserve. They have a primary observation point within the mountain. They are the only group that is allowed to have airborne vehicles within the park. They oversee the park as well as work with the caretakers, those people who live within the park and work to maintain specific habitats and aid any person that comes there seeking a bond.
Rangers prefer the hands-on approach to ensuring the health of the preserve_
Sacred animals are a symbol of status within the Mo'Kmane people. From the type of animal, to how it has been trained, to how many bonds one has are all intricate parts of how one's status is determined.
Children are taken from their parents at the age of ten to thirteen and are trained rigorously by grandmasters, religious officials and military personnel. They undergo a series of trials that prepare them to take the initiation into adulthood and full citizenship. This initiation starts after six to ten years of training and begins with a journey to commune with a spirit guide, often believed the guardian of the Tree of Life, who will then test them to see what creature they will bond to. They are then taken out to their local Preserve and are given basic necessities. They are forced to survive within the Preserves until they have bonded with an animal, only then can they leave.
Royals have the ability, believed to be a product of genetics, to bond with four creatures. Others outside the Royal lines that accomplish this are considered to be honored and revered grandmasters. Most people have at least one bond, two being a common sight. Three is considered to be rare and worthy of respect and honor.
