Feast of Enia

The Feast of Enia is an ancient acadean tradition brought to Leanor by the founders of the Acadean Empire. It is celebrated on the summer solstice, the sacred day of Enia, the acadean goddess of life, who is one of the seven main deities in the acadean pantheon. In acadean tiimes, the festivities took an entire week. After the fall of Acadea, the acadean gods survived in most parts of the former empire and are worshipped to this day, although the duration of the festival has decreased to a maximum of three days, more commonly only the day of the solstice.

The festival is is a celebration of life itself in all its facettes. In acadean times, the festival started on the summer solstice and involved a whole week of celebration. Since the goddess represents, among other things, nature, fertility and art, most of the festivities happen outside. During the festival, the streets and houses are decorated with flowers. The cow is Enia's sacred animal, so any consumption of beef is strictly prohibited during the entire festival. Children born during the festival, especially on the solstice itself, are considered very good luck.

One very important part of the festivities in Acadea were the music and theatre contests held mainly in the larger cities, which were attended by people of all walks of life. Contestants travelled to the cities from all over the empire to take part. Musicians were required to present at least one new composition for the competition. Plays for the theatres did not have to be new, but originality was still very welcome, and new plays were more likely to win the contest. Nowadays, contests are in most places no longer part of the celebration, but music and theatre still are.
