The Academy of Higher Magic

While many in the academy only were able to cast 1st level spells they made up for it by being trained in other ways. Some were very intelligent and studied advanced magic theoretically or by by applying the theory of higher magic upon their weaker magic and drawing conclusions that way.   Most magic studies and enchanting by the academy also did not need high level magic, but instead much time and effort from focused and carefull mages.   The organisation was made up of 20,000 mages, of which about half was in Academia, studying and teaching, while the other half was in different parts around the world to study or execute missions. Missions sometimes included the defeating of monsters but most of the time it was less violent missions helping villages and cities with troubles. Some missions were also permant and could only be described as normal work. Those included reneweing enchantments for cities and creating items such as Heat Discs.   The half which stayed in Academia had the same ratio of high and low level mages as the ones that left.

Mages may be differentiated from a crowd by their cloths. The traditional clothing is a robe in neautral colour, often very dark or light gray, with a coloroed cloak and a coloured cloth tied around the waist. The colour od the cloak and waistband depends on the element the mage is afinite to: red for fire, blue for water, yellow for earth and green for air. Many mages do not wear all the traditional clothing and switch the robe for something else they feel comfortable with. The waistband, and while not a hot sumemr da also the cloak, are therefore often seen with shirt and pants, dresses or toher types of robes, either more colourfull or even with patterns. For richer and betetr mages it is also not uncommon to switch parts of the clothing to personalised magic clothing.   Grand Mages are mages that are capable of stronger magic. Grand Mages are divided into groups by how many stars they have. To gain 1 star the a 3rd level spell slot is needed. For each star after that the next spell slot level is needed.   The Grand Mages may be differentiated by their cloths. Instead of one colored cloaks and waist bands theirs are bordered with golden patterns. The earthen mages that have yellow cloths often use a darken gold to contrast the yellow.   Grand mages also have a number of braided band hanging around them from the left shoulder. As the borders they are also gold and the number of braided bands correspond to the number of stars the Grand Mage have.   No other person than a grand mage is allowed to wear cloak or waistband in the four elemental colors with a golden border. Golden border with other colors are restricted to other roles within other factions and also restricted.   Grand mage magic clothing   The grand mages clothing are magical and give the following benefits when worn by their owner. To change owner a ritual must be performed by a number of wizards who know the ritual. The clothing takes up one atunement slot together.   Grand Mage Cloak: May reroll a saving throw against magic once per day. +2 AC if not wearing armor.   Grand Mage Waistband: +2 to concentration checks.   Grand Mage Braided Band: Each braid can store a 1st level spell.     Students clothing are gray cloaks with borderering bands in the color of the element.   After graduation cloths of fully one elemental color, with bordering silver bands, are allowed.  

Studies

Spells may be studied. To enhanche a spell one knows a number of years has to be spent studying, equal to the level of the spell (half a year for cantrips). During the end of each year a check is made to see if the studies have succeeded or failed.   90% success 9% fail and have to redo the year 1% fail with a mishap   If the studies succeeds the spell may be enhanced in one way. S spell may only be enhanched with oen effect and if the same spell is studied again only one effect may be used at a time.   Enhancements: *Double longer duration to a maximum of 24 hours *Double range *50% extra amount of targets, rounded down *20% chance of regaining spell slot after casting *50% extra speed on a spell that directly gives a speed (flying, swimming, etc) *+ 3 on concentration checks for that spell *The ability to cast it as a bonus action by using a spell slot of 2 level higher than the original *Holding the spell as an action but not using it does not waste the spell slot *Other appropriate effect for specific spells     Neocademy - Secret organisation
