Horned Ones (HO)

BORN FROM A MYSTERY

The Horned Ones are technically the youngest race in Launtrel, thought to be created by Novan at the start of the realm. Some, however, claim that Cellatalla created them since they look so like her. But, at the end of the day, nobody really knows what Novan looks like to make the final call, if the self-image theory is to even be true. Horned Ones got their name due to the large, elk or deer like crystal horns upon their heads. These horns are in fact made out of a crystal-like structure and often glitters in the sunlight. Because of this, most Horned Ones take great pride in their horns and keep them clean and chipped. Once broken off or damaged, the horns do not grow back and will remain that way for the rest of their lives. They are not necessarily fragile, but they are not indestructible. To some, losing a piece of your horn is a thing of deep pride, and to others it is a shame. Some also have a little crystal nub growing between them, but they do not grow more than the height of a fist. Without including their horns, Horned Ones stand between 7 feet and 8 feet tall, not including their antlers. Their ears are deer-like, protruding with a rounded tip from their hair or head. Their frame is considered humanoid, the biggest transversion from the typical human features being their face. A Horned Ones face can be exceedingly off-putting, if an outsider were to enter the realm. They have large, crystal-like eyes with no noticeable features, a tiny nose, and no mouth. Where a regular mouth would be, it is just a smooth patch of skin. However, this area does still function like a mouth and opens and closes all the same, revealing herbivore teeth.
Being created in the Feywild by a Fey, they are the a fey creature through and through. Depending on the region a Horned Ones ancestors hailed from, their skin tone can very greatly. Each region seems to have their own skin colors associated with the region to help them blend in with their environments. That is the only variation from one region Horned Ones to the next, as the rest of their traits are universal (excluding some having nubs and others not). The crystal colors of their horns, nubs, and eyes seem to reflect more of the personality of the Horned Ones at birth; a crystal can be any color. Colors such as pinks, yellows, oranges, and pastels tend to predict the Horned Ones to be happy and nice, whereas darker colors like purples, blues, and reds tend to predict the Horned Ones to be meaner or ruder. Of course, the crystal they are born with are not the ultimate deciding factor; a Horned Ones upbringing or history may end up changing their personality and therefor, rendering their color association invalid. Finally, Horned Ones also have metallic markings covering their body. Some have many, intricate ones where others may have a few or little. Currently, it is being studied by the Atithe Center if markings are genetic or work similar to crystal color. Some Horned Ones claim their markings have changed, but it has yet to be proven that they can.

A SUPERIORITY COMPLEX

Because it is a known fact that, whomever made them, created them for Launtrel specifically, Horned Ones tend to have a superiority complex about their race. They view themselves as the only 'true Launtrel' race and while they do not mind the other races being here, some extremists believe they should hold all of the power in the realm. While most don't go to that length in their superiority complex, they do still tend to believe that they are better at surviving Launtrel than others. Because of this, Horned Ones tend to take positions such as the City Guard, Scouts, Rangers, Druids, and run for political office. They frequently hold festivals surrounding their accomplishments in history and build statues and dedications for legendary Horned Ones.
The Launtrel Humans and the Horned Ones were one of the forerunners of Launtrel civilization. Together the two races can be accredited to building a lot of the major cities we see today. They all truly love Launtrel and in the end, just want it to prosper in every way. This need and desire is taken in many directions, but all root back to the same ingrained belief. Additionally, Horned Ones tend to be very close with their families and call them their "Herds". It is not uncommon for Horned Ones to go off and build their own small towns for their Herd in an unclaimed plot of land. Generations of Horned Ones happily live together under one roof, sharing stories and planning their next improvement to Launtrel.
