Principality of Harol
Demographics
Harol's population is largely human, with the rest of the population being a mix of elves, dwarves, halflings, and extreme minorities of orcs and half orcs, tieflings, kenku, and firbolgs. Other races may be present, but are often represented by travelers, tourists, and traders stopping to make a bargain and re-provision for the next leg of their journey.
Government
The Principality of Harol falls under jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Larcen, forming one of its three major states. Prince Darden serves as the leader, military head, and chief lawmaker of the region. Each individual city enforces its own city laws in addition to overarching Principality and Kingdom laws, and collect taxes on Prince Darden's behalf. Prince Darden serves as a chief judge for the most severe infractions of Principality laws, with an advisory board formed by a council of the victim's and culprit's peers.
Defences
Harol is the most well-defended of the three Principalities, with large coastal batteries armed with ballistae and anti-ship nets for natural bays to make up for the lack of natural defenses that cliff walls offer. Some of the coastal cities have perimeter walls for defense, which are manned by local garrisons when their hands aren't full sorting out rowdy sailors.
Industry & Trade
Fishing amongst the shallower coastal waters and serving passing traders are the two largest economic forces in the Principality of Harol. Farther inland toward the center of the island, there are also several independent farms that supply the nation's riding horses and other beasts of burden, as well as minor crop production for feeding said animals.
Infrastructure
The Principality of Harol relies significantly on trade flowing from the west, so many of its roads connecting Harol's ports and the Principality of Marcai are paved with granite setts. Many roads leading to other minor destinations, however, remain unpaved, and become a swampy mess during the rainy seasons.
Harol's most notable piece of infrastructure is their wide array of ports and naval facilities, where the nation's small standing navy is kept and where all imports and exports flow through. Almost any good can be bought from or special ordered by merchants from market stalls along Harol's coast, including some rather... unique goods, if you know where to look.
Assets
Trading posts, general stores, ports, fisheries, other minor facilities
Architecture
Buildings are largely made out of treated wood, with select buildings made of stone imported from the Principality of Marcai. Many buildings carry a nautical theme, such as interior decor pertaining to the sea and fishing, and the use of salvaged timber from ship wreckages or decomissioned ships.
