Personal history

Hatched in a cave on the island of Kalum Bul, Xeyebok quickly devoured his siblings and escaped to mainland Miras. Once on the continent he began his fresh life of scheming and compulsion. While still young the beholder traveled to Corvalus during the Warp of 666; there he would discover a dungeon beneath the ruined Tower of Prizme containing an orb of polished amethyst. The relic showed visions to Xeyebok, fractures of potential timelines that each showed his own demise. From that day he resolved to prevent his own death at any cost. The first step being to destroy the gemstone so that no one could use it against him, he did so by eating it and coincidentally increasing his own magical prowess (but not granting him foresight).   Over the next century and a half Xeyebok would grow in power and knowledge. In 811 ER when Ambrose François touched Ogorian's Lantern (see Chapter #1: Outside the Frontier Village), Ogorian sent out a wave of energy to assess the world. Only a few powerful beings were able to sense this wave and its implication; one such being was Xeyebok. While he did not know the exact meaning of the energy pulse, Xeyebok understood that a powerful being had awoken and if no precautions were taken it would mean his death. It was at this point that he decided he needed to gather powerful relics or allies to preserve himself, and the most efficient way to accomplish this was to found an organization of skilled followers under the guise of a mundane Thieves Guild. Taking advantage of the recent earthquakes in Illivan Xeyebok hid his new guild within the winding tunnels under Illivan.   In 813 ER Xeyebok called upon the Demon Lord Akante to enact a favor owed to him for saving the Demon's brother a century prior. Xeyebok expected Akante to provide him with knowledge of some power capable of shielding himself, but unknown to the beholder Akante was already under the unwilling influence of Ogorian's agents and was unable to fulfill the promise at the time.   Soon that same year Xeyebok learned that Aeldrenda, the paternal aunt of the Queen of Rosara, was in possesion of the ashen remains of a ancient, primal dragon. Resolved to steal the remains to raise the soul of the dragon as a protection spirit, Xeyebok's guild secretly hired a group of Rosaran criminals to break into the palace. The plan failed in spectacular fashion as the would be thieves were unaware of the royal families Draconic lineage and proclivity to breath fire.   Beginning in 815 Xeyebok's guild acquired an enchanted painting that served as an entrance to an ancient prison. Xeyebok conceived a plan to have one of his guild's officers, Marcel Jaquinot, delve into the prison to release some powerful beings to act as potential bodyguards for Xeyebok.
"Xeyebok's sagging, orb-like body turned to Marcel once more. “I have an additional task for you, Marcel. Take a note so not to forget,” his emphasis would cause any man to wince. “Kill Chronia’s beast and bring me a sample of its... discharge. I will have Altissa prepare a vial for you. As compensation I will provide you a second Rod, as you requested.”
