The industrious trading company that founded the
Orbytos mining settlement on
Iothea Isle, Orby's Borers has expanded from its creation as a mining expedition to a full fledged trading enterprise. After the discovery of Iothea Isle in late 505 ER, many explorers braved the Afthyric Ocean to discover what awaited them in the strange new world. One such explorer,
Orbas "Orby" Zanou , would discover an explosive ore decades later that led him to create the mining company, Orby's Borers. The extremely profitable mining camp would grow and evolve to officially become the settlement known as Orbytos in 540 ER. Currently, the company is officially headquartered in the Nissean city of Casteras, although most of it's production and manufacturing take place on Iothea Isle.
Pop Ore and Pop Ore Accessories
The manufacturing of
Pop Ore materials and it's byproduct, pop powder, proved to be one of the most profitable business ventures in history and led Orby's Borers to expand more into the fabrication of goods using their proprietary material. The versatility of pop ore is quite limited, so the core of it's use is focused on explosions. One major item produced regularly by Orby's Borers are
Impact Lances. The lances' effectiveness as crowd control and combat made them ideal for security, so the Bank of Nissea contracted with the company to gain exclusive rights to any and all impact lances produced by the company.
The byproduct of all pop ore manufacturing and refining is the ever-useful pop powder. A fine grain form of pop ore, pop powder can be used for controlled explosions. Industrial uses for the powder include blasting tunnels and debris. Orby's Borers ships pop powder from Iothea Isle on such regular schedule that the company needed to form their own navy to protect their ships from pirates.
Exploration
After the success of Orbytos on Iothea Isle, Orby's Borers began to realize that other resources were ripe for discovery on the jungle isle. Many flora and fauna previously unknown to mainland Elis were captured and returned to Nissea for study. These expeditions led to many grand discoveries such as the honey needed for
the cure for
Sarcoxie.
Not all of Orby's Borers expeditions were successful. The island itself is very deadly because of threats like large territorial predators and tiny venomous creatures. By 620 ER, the company was made aware of the island's native population who had up to that point kept their precesnse hidden from the colonizers. In the centuries since, the company has had many conflicts with the native people which has limited it's growth on the Isle.
