The Saurian Guard
The Saurian Guard is a collaborative unit of warriors from both Erynland and Carador. They man the towers that protect the civilized world from the dinosaur domains of Odlarnas Rike.
They will warn anyone from attempting entry into the wilderness beyond their towers, stopping invaders by force if necessary. Likewise, they prevent large predatory dinosaurs from breaking out of the territory and ravaging more civilized lands.
Structure
The Saurian Guard is organized by tower. Carador and Erynland have divided the towers up by agreement, and Veltingard mans a larger fortress at the southern edge of the border of the dinosaur domain, Fort Madfall. Officially, each tower is independent of the others; unofficially, the towers will often work together.
Every tower typically has a full compliment of soldiers that include heavily armored infantry with extra long spears and crossbowmen.
Culture
Two cultures exist within the Guard. Among the Erynlanders and Veltingarders who enter the Guard, the cultural commitment to duty make them enter this service willingly. Caradoran citizens, on the other hand, look on this service as undesirable. King Cyrion has offered a significant salary to those who join the Guard, but still the character of those who join are the poor and the desperate.
Assets
The Saurian Guard possesses heavy armor and large shields for each soldier of the Guard. The armor and shields is covered with metal spikes. They are also equipped with very long cutting spears, ten to twelve feet long, with extra blades and a place to hang a lantern near the head of the spear.
The Saurian Guards also wield heavy crossbows and their towers have maneuverable ballistas on the lower balconies.
History
After the Saurian Hex occurred, the nations of Carador and Erynland scrambled to defend what remained of their lands from the curse. Archmages from both countries cast protective spells to push back the dinosaurs, while builders began to construct towers along the border of the cursed lands.
The kings of both nations swiftly sent envoys and before long, Carador and Erynland crafted and signed the Saurian Pact, which created the Saurian Guard. Two years later, Veltingard added their pledge to the Pact.
