Augurs Prevent Tragedy: Shellbay Revolt

Military action

1486
28/6

The infiltration of Shellbay by Augury military forces. Their stay in the city was presented under the guise of a survey mission until the three renegade families in question were slain (after sufficient evidence was found). The event would serve as proof of the powers the Augurs could wield, reinforcing the ruling family's devotion to their empire.

After the Saltkrigere Empire fell, there were several years of peace under the Augury and within Shellbay. While all appeared to be well, there were truly 3 great families in Shellbay that were working towards revolting after connecting to their relatives that had escaped to the Snow Rock Isles. Their revolt was always bound to fail, never garnering enough support to get off the ground before they were killed. The Augurs, who saw glimpses of their future misbehavior, wished to avoid the spread of depravity and took action. They sent 120 men to Shellbay for "survey" purposes, and they would be housed well by the generous ruling family that the Augury had instated. An investigation would be secretly sprung as they took advantage of Shellbay hospitality, and the perpetrators were proven guilty by the discovery of several letters.   To avoid suspicion, the present commander held a celebration for 5 separate houses. All present perpetrators were assassinated by leaving poison in their empty chalices. Those who didn't drink (mostly paladins) were put to the sword upon retaliation. The show of force rattled the Baron of Shellbay, though he had already been informed prior to the dinner. the event corroded any remaining suspicions of the powers that the Augurs possessed, making any who planned to take action rethink their path.    After the soldiers returned home, the Consuls spread word that any other visions of revolt had faded for the time being, and this remained true into the distant future.
