Kolos
the Gondelier
Kolos, the Gondelier, is a lesser demon of Caripreet folklore. As the city expanded into the lower reaches of the land and canals grew into common use, the legend of Kolos grew among those of the lower class. Perhaps as a way to keep children from swimming in the waste waters, the rumors claimed that a man in a long boat silently travelled the canal waters at night. He would appear to be alone on the boat, playing fine music with his lyre to attract children. Beneath the water's line was the true Kolos, a many-armed demon whose body was formed by the victims it took from the canals, with the "gondelier" itself being the creature's first victim.
The legend grew into common use as Caripreet banned passage across the canals after dark. The government spread the urban legend with great success, but it has become a laughable tale within the city. Small villages beyond the city and within the Nadlewood Strip have grown to adamantly believe the legends, staying away from rivers after dark and housing their cattle on the outskirts of the towns.
Kolos is believed to have originated in Bedlam before he escaped during a feast of Eithun Urr. His journey brought him to The Colored Doors, where he found passage to The Quells. It was here that Kowl Mortor commissioned Kolos to collect souls of those that abandoned law and order before Bailum could pass judgement or Taopin could reincarnate their souls. Kolos agreed, under the condition he would be rewarded with greater power and visage for each soul he captured. Upon agreeing, Kolos rowed his way to Caripreet, the city of sin.
