Captain Gums is the leader of the pirates known as The Krakens of Death, he is famous for his most defining trait, his lack of teeth due to an obsession with sugar and a lack of any understanding of hygiene to be seen. His mother died while giving birth to him, since she was the previous captain of the krakens he inherited the position as soon as he was born. Yet he was raised by one of his moms friends who stopped him from being killed until he could run the krakens, they were killed in an assassination attempt meant for Gums himself. Gums is obsessed with the idea of chaos, power, and money. He constantly wants to be on the open sea, plundering and taking everything he possibly can. Surprisingly, even though he is not particularly smart he is quite skilled at his job with the things like leadership and strategy. He is short and still very young at the age of eighteen but manages to command his people and still be intimidating.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

The psychical condition of captain gums is certainly not desirable. He is slightly overweight and certainly not fit. He has a terrible cough which persists all day. The most noticeable condition of his is the fact that he has no teeth due to eating excessive stolen sweets and not knowing what hygiene is.

Captain Gums has dark brown hair, though it usually is quite dirty. His skin is a deep olive and nearly brown.

Facial Features

Captain gums has a very round face, with a quite weak chin. He also has a very large nose and fairly large ears as well. His eyebrows are pretty bushy and have grown in a way that makes him look frustrated all the time.

Identifying Characteristics

The main identifying feature of captain Gums is his lack of teeth and surprisingly short height and young age. Though the main thing is the whole lack of teeth which is where he gets the name "Captain Gums" from.

Physical quirks

The Captain Happens to be ambidextrous and can wield a gun and a scimitar at the same time. He walks with a slight limp because of a leg injury he acquired, he also does not have particularly good posture. It is not a full hunch back but he definitely does not stand up completely straight.

While Captain Gums is very dangerous and strong he has no special abilities and is basically completely mundane.

The Captain wears a black uniform striped with red and purple. He has high leather boots and wears leather gloves. Possibly the most notable feature is his hat which is mainly black but has a stripe of red around the brim and has a large fish bone coming out on top of it like a feather.

A steel scimitar infused with Averiine, with a gold handle encrusted with opal gemstones.
A large blunderbuss modified to blast huge flames and enchanted to be able to shoot powerful thunder bullets.
His hat provides him some magical protection from attacks but not a ton.

Personal history

Captain Gums's mother died in labor giving birth to Gums. Since she was the third captain of The Krakens of Death, Gums was automatically technically the fourth. Fearing that Gums would be assassinated, and for good reason, a friend of his mothers raised him and protected him until he was old enough to fully take up the position of captain of The Krakens of Death. He did not have many friends when he was little as he was the only kid on the entire crew and everybody secretly wanted to assassinate him. One of these people attempted to assassinate him when he was only fourteen, but he was protected by his guardian, yet they still were killed. After this he became the full captain and managed to instill respect and fear into his crew. He then lead them though many raids and plunders as he had seen them do before. When he was still little he was sometimes given stolen sugar, when he was conducting raids one of the first priorities for his men was to bring him sugar, which lead to him losing all of his teeth along with extremely poor hygiene.

Captain Gums inherited being captain of The Krakens of Death when he was just born. He has never had another job aside from being the captain and fully took up the mantle when he was only fourteen.

Gums has managed to conduct several very successful raids in the past, he has stolen a huge amount of wealth and gold, something he is proud of. He is also proud to be the youngest of all the captains to run The Krakens of Death yet still be just as successful if not more.

While Gums is very proud of how much he has accomplished even though he is only eighteen he is also slightly embarrassed that most of his crew is older than he is. A lot of them could easily be old enough to be his parents which makes him uncomfortable but he tries to ignore it.

Since Captain Gums has lived on the sea his entire life he has a phobia of sand or leaving The Carili Sea. Since it is all he has ever known he is terrified of what unknown things may be out there beyond the sea.

Captain Gums believes that the strongest are the ones who deserve more. Essentially if you can take something than it is basically yours anyways. He also is extremely adverse to the law and will go out of his way to show that laws are just idiotic constructs of society. He thinks laws only hold people who are stronger than the rest from being able to show their strength because that the weak are simply afraid of them.

Captain Gums is a very good leader and a surprisingly skilled strategist. Since he has ran the entire crew of The Krakens of Death for years, he's seen and done many raids. Because of this he has gotten quite good and strategizing and planning his own raids as well as being able to command his crew. He is not very skilled at most other things regarding intelligence and if he were to not be a pirate anymore would be completely helpless living in normal society.

Captain Gums has an obsession with sugar, on Laeriss sugar is rare and a delicacy not usually enjoyed but according to Captain Gums, when anybody finds anything with sugar in their raids they must bring it to him and only him or its off with their heads. He has an extreme disliking for being on dry land or slowing down since he always wants to be plundering or going on an adventure. He also hates The Crimson Skulls and will do anything to make their lives harder, constantly competing over controlling The Carili Sea. Gums especially hates their leader, Captain Crin.

He is a skilled leader and has the skill to command a fleet, raise moral, and have his pirates like him enough to not try and assassinate him. Gums is also very skilled at planning and strategizing to figure out the proper way to conduct and carry out a raid as to lose the least people and gain the most riches and loot.

Captain Gums is obsessed with sugar to the point of addiction and becomes a menace to everybody around him when he does not get it. Even as a five foot tall dwarf he intimidates even the tallest and strongest of his crew in this state. He also has a crippling fear of sand and refuses to ever set foot on the stuff for fear of what its like and what may happen.

Personality Quirks

He coughs very often and very hard. When he starts getting emotional, angry, or during an extreme or high stress situation he starts coughing more often and even harder. When he is worked up he also likes to find something which he can bite down on but is usually displeased when he remembers he does not have teeth.

Hygiene

The hygiene of Captain Gums is so bad that he does not know what hygiene even means. The only semblance of a shower he ever takes is falling into the ocean and he had never attempted to reduce his own stench, Gums does not even know that the smell of his crew is not normal since he has only lived around them his entire life. His complete lack of comprehension for the idea of hygiene is most likely the main contributor for why he has no teeth.

Contacts & Relations

Captain Gums has an extreme disliking of the entire crew of The Crimson Skulls and especially dislikes their leader, Captain Crin. The krakens are constantly rivaling the skulls and he makes it very clear that they should show no mercy to them.

Captain Gums has no idea who is family really is and believes that all of them are dead. He has no clue who his father was and his mother is dead, he has no siblings and the crew is essentially his only family.

Captain Gums worships the god of chaos and storms, Enfranis, as he likes being chaotic and brutal. Part of his plundering and looting is almost as an offering to Enfranis, being unpredictable and dangerous which are some of the key elements of Enfranis and the Enfranis faith.

Captain Gums is surprisingly a very skilled leader, he may not be charismatic or tall but he can command a crowd and possesses a beamingly loud voice. In one on one conversations he is very loud and is very ostentatious. Though he is set off easily and will get extremely enraged when his orders are not followed.

Captain Gums always talks loud and has a booming voice which almost seems to echo out from him. His voice is quite raspy and he can not pronounce a lot of sounds because that he has no teeth, he is constantly coughing and it is said that one, or even multiple of his teeth fell into his lungs and that is why he coughs.

Captain Gums has a pet bird, but not a parrot like you may think, no Captain Gums has a giant pelican who stays by his side and likes to sit on his head. He is also a fan of strategy based board games like chess which he finds very enjoyable.

Because that Gums has no teeth his speech is very impeded and there are many sounds he can not pronounce. He can't pronounce the sounds of:
C's, V's, S's, M's, N's, Th's, or F's.
He also swears quite a lot and like to jokingly insult people, sometimes this gets him in trouble but usually the harshness of his "jokes" genuinely hurt the feelings of those he is talking to unless they are used to his sense of humor. He has a rumbly and quite deep voice and talks with a slight Dwarfish accent.

Wealth & Financial state

Captain Gums is very wealthy as he is the leader of a crew consisting of over a hundred men. He has gained huge amounts of treasure from the many raids done by him and his crew on the towns of The Carili Sea. A some towns he has successfully raided are the towns of Whitebeach and Yötka. The hoard of gold which the crew has is enormous but it is quite rare that they will actually sell or trade their loot, only really keeping it as a token of their accomplishments. Captain Gums essentially has the power to ask for anything he wants which has been plundered by his men which is a whole variety of different valuable and useful things. Though usually these requests take the form of Captain Gums asking his crew to bring him sugar and sugar products. He also likes to steal things which he can add to his outfit and make it look cooler, like badges or sashes and the like.
