Mor Fiodh

The "Great Timber" of Mor Beathadach, Mor Fiodh is a gigantic wooden dam that holds back the waters of Loch Beathadach. The dam spans the entire width of the valley, a good league or so across, turning much of the area behind it into a giant artificial lake and extensive areas of wetland.

Structure and Art

Mor Fiodh is not only the largest dam in the known world, it is also the single largest artificial structure in the known world, surpassing even the longest bridges and aqueducts of the Great Empire in length. It is constructed as a gently arched gravity dam reinforced on its downstream side by roughly five hundred massive buttress hewn from single enormous logs. Despite being constructed from roughly hewn lumber, the dam has proven to be remarkably resilient, withstanding countless floods and storms that have reduced lesser built Beathadach lodges and dams to splinters.
The butresses are heavily carved with Beathadach artwork, which includes the oldest known depiction of a living Dragon. Atop each butress, raised above the level of the causeway, is an open pavilion structure. These pavilions seem to be later additions to the dam, and are used to house wooden statues as memorials to the departed leaders of Mor Beathadach.

Legendary Structure

Constructed by the Beathadach over hundreds of their generations, their oral traditions assert that Mor Fiodh is constructed from timbers hewn from a single tree. Whether this is simply a legend or truth is unknown. Mor Fiodh is known to have existed since at least the time of King Artweg, who in his Saga walked across the top of it and back again.
