Unblinking Eye

No one is quite sure when or where this tradition started, but many people still beleive that this can keep monsters from coming after you.   By drawing an eye shape on your forehead, usually with ashes from a cold fire, you can keep monsters and evil spirits from bothering you. the thought is that the monsters see the open eye on your forhead and assume that they can be seen, and so do not attack as they do not have surprize on their side. Some purveyors of this ritual contend that you also have to draw the eye on the back of your head as well so they can not come up at you from behind. In order to so this you should either have a helmet, hat or scarf wrapped over your hair, and draw the eye on that. Also, the bigger you make the eye the more effective it is supposed to be. Some also suggest trying to make the eye look angry or scary if possible, while others say the important thing is that the eye appears open and watching.   No evidence of the success of this superstition has been found against monsters, but there is at least one story of a wolf leaving the area while someone was wearing the unblinking eye. So it may work on beasts as well as monsters and spirits. Several proponents of this idea beleive that more than one eye is needed against more powerful monsters and suggest adding as many eyes as possible all over the body, might be the proper approach. But again this is all just superstitition at this point.   This tradition is seen mostly in eastern provinces of the Empire of Kyrnia, while the western version of this tradition uses the sun symbol of Anno instead of an eye.
