The Flooding of Berrygate

About fifty years ago, the Kingdom of Edengaard was attacked by creatures made of fire and in a single night the elven kingdom was destroyed. The fire monsters stayed in the high mountain valley that formed Edengaard and did not venture out. While some of the communities near Edengaard grew fearful of an invasion that did not come, another event ended wiping out the halfling village of Berrygate that sat at the end of the valley.   Several days after the invasion, the citizens of Berrygate were still worried about what had happened to their neighbors. Even with the noonday sun shining brightly in the sky, the red glow of massive fires could be seen in the skies to the north above Edengaard. On the 4th day, after the fall of EdenGaard, the Bubblebrook, a small stream that flowed down the valley, and through Berrygate, increased in volume, but no one thought too much about it. That night as halfling parents huddled around their heaths and talked in hushed tones as their children slept, a great roar was heard. Those that lived further away from the stream and survived describe a huge wall of water come rushing down the valley and destroying the village. Over one hundred halflings, and all their homes and possessions, were washed away in a matter of a few moments.   The halflings that survived did not know if this was the start of another attack like the one that consumed Edengaard, so they grabbed what they could and fled. Several weeks later, when rangers came to investigate the happenings of Edengaard and Berrygate, they headed up into the mountains and discovered that the glacier that had been on one side of the valley had completely melted away, and in its place huge spouts of fire and lava spit up into the air.    To this day, both Edengaard, and Berrygate are considered lost and cursed.
