The Crab King Myth in Kyrn | World Anvil

The Crab King

There has been a story going around Nedev almost since its founding twenty-five years ago, of a monsterous creature called the Crab King.   The story goes as such: Back before Nedev was founded, this land was controlled by the Red Blade tribe of Goblins. These goblins had a shamaness named Gru-grog who worked for the chieftain. The chieftain was always trying to improve the might of his domain, and wanted strong warriors to serve him. He asked Gru-grog to make his warriors stronger, so Gru-grog worked her magic and created a potion that would make the warriors stronger, giving them armor over their bodies, and large pincher like hands to rip their enemies apart.   But while the potions worked, the goblins couldn't recover back to normal after drinking the potions, and eventually they jumped into the river to live as giant crabs.   While the Battle of Nedev was taking place, the cheiftain realized that his tribe was losing. He had the shamaness give him the last of the crab potions and he ran into battle as he was being transformed. But too late to turn the tide, the goblins were pushed back and back until they were trapped at the edge of the river. The goblin cheiftain not wanting to give the enemy the satisfaction of killing him jumped into the river to escape, leaving many of his warriors behind to die.   For years, the fishermen and rivermen of Nedev would swear that they saw a large crab looking at them as they piloted their boats up and down the river. The crab king has also been spotted lurking around the base of the West Bridge, snapping its claws at people that spotted him before diving back into the water. Over the years, a game of sorts has been taken up by young lovers to prove their devotion. The young male will escort his girl out to the West Bridge as the sun is sinking low, and then to prove his love to her, he will climb down under the bridge to show that he would face even the Crab King to win her love.   Twice now, a young man has gone missing while undertaking this stunt. Some say, the boys just slipped and drowned, while others say it truly was the Crab King seeking his vengence against the inhabitants of Nedev.
