Argate
Argate, the Silver City of the South
Located where the Ar river meets the Sernas Sea and the Khaziram Mountains, Argate is a wealthy regional power. The city attracts merchants and traders looking to trade goods for the silver that Argate produces from its mines. The city also attracts adventurers looking to travel to other distant lands or delve into the Khaziram Mountains in search of ancient treasures.

Government
The seat of the Barony of Sernas, Baroness Ysmyra Silvertouch rules the city with the aid of her small council and various lords and ladies.
Defences
The city is surrounded by high walls, and the river Ar protects the southern side of the city as well. Gatehouses protect the entrances to the city, and a large fortified bridge crosses the Ar at the southern gate. The keep is surrounded by another curtain wall, and sits on a high point of the city providing it with a good vantage point.

Argate has two main industries, mining silver, and trade, both of which bring in a lot of wealth.

Guilds and Factions
There are many guilds operating in Argate. The strongest of which is the Guild of Silversmiths. Silversmiths guild controls access to to the silver market, and is highly influential in local politics.
Also highly influential is the Captain's Guild which controls the shipping into and out of the city by sea. It is closely associated with the Merchant's Guild although the two often quarrel over price of shipping goods.
History
About a dozen years ago their was a food shortage due to a drought. Some rioting took place in the city, and some looters tried to storm the Temple of Light, as they had food stores that they were rationing to the people. No one actually made it into the Temple grounds, and the looting subsided when the Lightbringers started patrolling the city alongside the Watch and the Guard.
Architecture
Most of the buildings in Argate are well built, usually with stone first floors and wooden upper floors. Most of the first floors, especially in the merchant districts are shops, with the shop owners living in the upper levels.
Geography
Argate is on the north side of the Ar river, at the edge of the Sernas Sea with the Khaziram Mountains just to the north. Stretching away to the south and the west are the vast grasslands of Sernas which provide bountiful harvests almost year round due to the warm temperate climate.
Natural Resources
The silver mines to the north in the Khaziram Mountains are the cities greatest natural resource, followed by the easy access to the Sernas Sea and all of it's bounties.
