We're the only crew that do accept us as we ar'. We don't stop, and we don't care, 'till all those other sea swimmers hang at the bottom o' the blue.

The Silver Piece Collective is, perhaps, more known for the crews and ships actively working against its code of laws than those who uphold it. The Collective Creed, a set of law that dictates many distinct inalienable rules sailors of the collective must abide by, but it is also a list highly contested against its moral ethics. So contested that criminals commonly known as pirates do not hesitate to repute.   The Silver Grins are no different. A collection of crewmates who came together under the fires of rebellion, this group has manned the same ship they used since the initial conception, its name the Merciless Maiden. Its captain is Hartwell "Jade Eye" Alistair, and his ruthlessness to law is about as chaotic as a wild beast's. This is their story.   Hartwell Alistair and much of his major crew were all born with some sort of deficiencies. Hartwell was born blind in one eye. Jarrett Merton's hands always shook so he couldn't hold his father's rifle steady. Weaver Dhampir was born without teeth, and always struggled with speech and even eating. Essie Issac was a girl always ridiculed for the marks on her skin that stayed since birth, shunned like it was a disease. And Didia Priscian was cursed with strange magic which no one accepted.   In their early years, they came together as their only source of comfort, whatever safety and security they could get away from the communities who did not approve of them. To some, they saw only a life buried in this shame, but to Hartwell Alistair, he saw a reason to stand up, a problem that needed fixing. He saw enemies who didn't care for him, so he wouldn't care for them.   With everyone else at his back, the five stole off with a noble captain's ship from the harbors of Mutiny Port, leaving no regret in making their actions widely known as he took even the captain's embroidered coat. From then on, the five steadily grew their numbers with those who thought the same as them, suffered the same as them. Once the ship was named the Merciful Mistress. Now, it was the Merciless Maiden.   In their recruitment, they came upon a man in a bird mask, a person who called himself an elaborate name like Dr. Strife von Stauer. At first unordinary like the rest of them, Hartwell grew ever more drawn to him with Strife's proficiency and expertise over medicinal care and, most of all, bodily enhancement. For the first time, Hartwell, and his four other childhood friends saw a chance for recovery. He saw an opportunity to see through both eyes. So he took it.   Over the course of months, Strife experimented and conducted surgeries on each one of them. Didia Priscian wished to gain a mind able to comprehend her magic. Essie wished to be the most beautiful woman on the seas. Jarrett wished to transform his hand into his father's rifle so he could hold steady. Weaver wished to grow all his teeth back. And Hartwell yearned to reclaim control over his left eye.   But everything went terribly wrong. Didia Priscian became extremely paranoid. Essie Isaac, to everyone's fortune, had no mirror to look into. Jarrett Merton gained his father's rifle, but it was no better than a pistol then. Weaver's face was permanently contorted into an evil grin. And Hartwell did regain his eye, but it was at the expense of his other one. And more, his new eye glowed from the jade that was used, and now he could only see in shades of green.   He thought to have Strife tortured then mutilated, but he was already gone, vanished into the foggy night with one of their rowboats. That day, the Silver Grins forgot why they originally banded together. Because now they only sought one thing, one person to hunt down. They spent the next couple years doing everything they could to accomplish that.   They raided ships but left its treasure. They assaulted innocents with no regard for morality. They issued bounties on themselves in an attempt to lure bounty hunters their way. In so doing, they hoped to find the man himself, or someone who knew where he would be.   In any case, Hartwell's anger toward the SPC paled now, in comparison to the grudge he held against Strife von Stauer for what he did to him and Alistair's companions.
