Sailing Into Position

The time drew near for the defense of Manmoga, and in the final preparations, Corellia retrieved Fannik and brought him to the party, and they stalked south along the coast, releasing the New Management in the water at an empty beach. On the ship, they began to sail back up north to pincer the enemy from behind.   Along the way, they used the powerful magic of Fannik to once control the weather and conjure powerful winds in their sails, and upon their arrival, twice turn the sea into a storm of waves, descended upon by a heavy fog. When the party saw the town come into view, Silverking's ships were still there blockading the harbor.   Arves used his magical wizard's quill on several of the kobold's clothes to begin drawing up a crude replica of Silverking's iconic flag — a skull and crossbones on black canvas. It wasn't perfect, but hoisting it up, it was enough to deceive the other pirates into thinking they had a fourth ship to help them. When the fighting started, no one made any initial attacks against the New Management.

The Battle Begins

Rumkeg's flagship, the Dragon's Hoard, and two others — the Crying Corsair and Triton's Revenge — sailed in from the northwest against the three opposing ships, while the New Management sailed in unopposed from the east. Two of the ships — the Angry Killer and Vanquisher — were being led by the middle ship, the Sudden North. That was the vessel the party aimed to target.   In the first moments of fighting, a druid from onboard the Sudden North conjured a torrential wave that came and washed the Crying Corsair away, capsizing and destroying it in seconds. But, the Dragon's Hoard and Triton's Revenge managed to flank the Angry Killer on both sides and trap it. Over the sky, Rumkeg's Harpy Tamers unleashed their cryptic music, riding upon the backs of the harpies and shredding the enemy decks.   As for the New Management, the party sailed the ship within striking distance of the Sudden North, whereupon they split into two teams. Zephyrion carried Vox, who failed attempted to carpet bomb the deck with the glasses of alchemist's fire they'd made earlier in the day. Meanwhile Fannik flew with Corellia and Arves, and after the bombing, the group landed on the Sudden North.

On the Deck of the Sudden North

A human pirate captain was at the wheel, an ogre bosun was whipping the crew, the druid from before was present, but the party also spotted Silverking's first mate, "Timber" from when they walked the Pirate Lord's plank days ago, complete with his glowing glass eye; an eye the party was immediately keen on taking. An intense brawl broke out upon the deck.   After a failed volley of ballista bolts from the Paku'wat kobolds on the New Management, the ship pulled alongside the Sudden North and they and Scurvy joined the fighting. However, the Vanquisher also pulled up to the other side and added their crew into the fray. The party also noticed Rumkeg send reinforcements when a longboat pulled up to the ship; climbing onboard was some of his crew and a marksman of a lionfolk, named Lothar. He aided the party in their fight.   Timber proved to be much deadlier than the party thought. He used powerful necrotic magic, a strange omen, and despite all the injuries he sustained, it seemed as though he didn't feel any of the pain at all...

The Battle Ends

The fight was bloody, and by its end, Corellia and Arves were on their last legs. Even Fannik, despite his tremendous strength, wasn't unscathed. But, the enemy was defeated, and Timber was knocked unconscious by Fannik, later taken prisoner by Rumkeg after the party plucked out his magical glass eye.   The Angry Killer was obliterated in cannon fire, and soon after, the Dragon's Hoard came to the Sudden North, and Rumkeg boarded it, together with the rest of his crew and his Sharkhound, Tooth. The Vanquisher was acquired by Rumkeg while the Sudden North was left to the party. Rumkeg told them they'd receive the rest of their reward later in the evening, saying to think long and hard on what their favor would be. Then, both sides took their leave.

New Management II

The party looted their new galleon. They found cannons on the ship, complete with cannonballs and gatpowder kegs. They also found a magical cutlass from the pirate captain they'd slain.   They had this new ship under their control, however they did not have the manpower to crew it, even with their kobolds, who had suffered heavy losses in the fighting. It was moored in at dock until the party could figure something out for it, but they were determined to keep it, and named it the New Management II.

New Prospects

The party found Shade in the ship's captain's quarters later that day, who told them their reward was ready, and the party left for the Dragon's Hoard. Led into Rumkeg's quarters, he wasted no time in paying the party their share, and Corellia used this opportunity to cash in on the favor, asking for Rumkeg to provide an above-average crew that could man their new ship. In response, Rumkeg said he'd pay Captain Flintround a visit and see who he could muster for the party within the week.   Before the party left, Rumkeg asked the party what they would do after their job in the south was done, and after being given some general responses, he offered them another opportunity. The Yuan-Ti of Macdalli, the Yuan Nenar, had been a thorn in Mason Island for far too long, and Rumkeg had been hoping for a long time for a skilled group that could help him... put someone else in charge.

Macdalli

For centuries, the temple town of Macdalli had been home to cutthroat and tribal Yuan-Ti known as the Yuan Nenar, who worship the three serpent gods, but believe Hwesta is the combined form of all three. Their pureblooded nature makes them believe non-natives less than worthy, and regularly abduct folk from across the island — even out west to Scally Bay — where they offer them in live sacrifice to Hwesta at the top of their temple. Zephyrion's owlin people were folk who have also suffered at the hands of the Yuan Nenar.

If the party were available in the future, he offered to give them aid in attacking the place and taking it over. The party would be in charge, but would answer to Rumkeg. The party chose to keep that offer in mind for later.   They left and requisitioned repairs for their new ship, and then went to sleep to sleep off their injuries.   To be continued...
