Episode 34 - The Fall of Dagrah
After releasing Dagrah from his tomb, the hideous monster erupts out of the ground and begins to feast on the souls of the civilians in the Upper Delta. The party decides to gather themselves back at the Wit's End after Vaceren places a transportation circle on the floor of the lab. After the party reconveines at their bar, they decide to separate into two groups: Vaceren and Klork gather followers to fight Dagrah while Moxt and Klork gather supplies for the upcoming battle.
Vaceren and Klork contact The Legion and speak with their leader Ignoroc The Incontinent. The Legion appears to be locked up in anticipation of a coming battle. Vaceren explains to Ignorac that they need reinforcements and convince him that they should speak to the men. Vaceren addresses the army but only locates one man, Faelan Maguire, who steps up to join the cause. Faelan brings four other soldiers serving underneath him to join the heroes' quest. Vaceren and Klork then venture to The Blood Pit and sneak into the V.I.P. box, allowing them to address the whole crowd. Through a magical loudspeaker, the heroes advise that an undead dragon is attacking the city and they need volunteers to fight to the death. The crowd screams in terror and immediately begin stampeding, trying to get home to their loved ones, except for two spectators who stay to fight for their home. One of the gladiators in the pit, Aspar Agus, agrees to join the heroes as he is "already dead." Finally, Klork and Vaceren stop by the heroes guild where they immediately begin insulting the hideous female attendent, calling her an old hag. They are quickly "escorted" out of the premises and are unable to draft any more heroes.
Moxt and Davwyn run through the city, hurridly gathering supplies. They stop by Pen and Parchment, Fortuna's Elixirs, Finkle & Einhorn's Quality Engraving, and Fizban's where they are able to gather a few useful items. In the process of doing all this, Davwyn agrees to help Fizban in his upcoming civil suit concerning some of his questionable business practices. Davwyn also imbues his sword, Arnon's Thirst, with a rare and powerful rune.
The party reunites on the bridge leading into the Upper Delata. They face a nearly completely transformed Dagrah, carrying with them the comatose body of their friend Big Booty Judy. In an attempt to force Dagrah to leave the city, Klork slices Judy open from nare to navel, severing her life force and connection to the dragon. In a rage, Dagrah releases a massive wave of ferrous liquid, trapping most of the reinforcements on the bridge. Eventually Dagrah is weakened to the point where he begins consuming more souls in an attempt to regain his power. He utilizes his control over the shadows and nearly kills several party members. Eventually, Davwyn is able to strike the final blow, landing a critical hit against the once great dragon. Davwyn and Klork chase after a figure they believe to be Dr. William Birkin through the crowd, Vaceren returns to the Wit's End to rest, and Moxt falls to his knees, crying over his fallen friend, whispering words into her lifeless ear.
Davwyn and Klork chase Dr. Birkin back into his underground laboratory and press him for information concerning the Viscount and the objects located in the lab. Dr. Birkin advises there are five outstanding "Tungsten Sepuku boxes" which were given to the Viscount. Moxt and Klork take a total of three of these boxes for themselves and have Dr. Birkin destroy the rest. Eventually Klork decides to throw Dr. Birkin into the enclosure with the Petrified Trees but times it poorly with the incoming Scabbard effect. Some of the vapour escapes through the door and momentarily stuns the two heroes. Eventually the gas is sucked back into its enclosure and the two can see Dr. Birkin has been turned to stone as he has been consumed by three of the monsters. Suddenly realizing some of his power has left him, Klork looks down and sees a petrified hand on his shoulder. Feeling his life force slowly evaporating away, panic sets in. We begin today's session with Klork slowly becoming consumed, unable to move, hoping Davwyn will come to his rescue.
