Episode 17 - The Docks
The party drifts off to sleep after their dark encounter with the temple of Pelor and the slaughtered priests. Their dreams are filled with vile images of crashing sea waves, drowning sailors, a snake like symbol twisting and coiling into unnatural shapes, citizens of Raiford's Keep fall dead in the streets as their flesh melt off their bones, and a darkness coursing through an unknown forest like a festering plague.
Akorah receives a letter from Aaron Frost who inquires about the party's mission progress to learn about the status of Veg Corp's product at the docks. The party decides to venture to the docks during the day where Akorah discovers from an enamored dock worker that Veg Corp's produce has been magically enhanced by Growth Magically Ordained or "GMO". She further discovers that Gan Lan's produce is being held up at the docks because it is covered in a strange orange fuzz. After some time with her informant, Akorah additionally discovers that Walton Enterprises moves a massive amount of product through the docks and notes that the produce is perfectly normal.
As Akorah is using her womanly wiles, Booty discovers, by accident, that the fuzzy produce is intoxicatingly delicious. Chief and Moxt intend to discover if the dock boss' office holds any secrets concerning Veg Corp or Walton Enterprises. Much to his chagrin, Chief literally stumbles through Tierra Calle's office door and falls to the ground. Moxt stealthily sneaks past the dock boss as he lays into Chief. Moxt discovers a letter from The Viscount asking Tierra Calle to hold Veg Corp's assets at the dock for further investigation.
The party reconvenes outside the docks and Akorah decides to meet with Aaron to provide updates on Veg Corp. After hearing the status of the product, Aaron advises Akorah to provide him with any proof she may have on this corporate espionage and to further find "a creative way" to release the hold on Veg Corp's exports.
Booty locates a dark Tabaxi selling human body parts which he advises are responsibly harvested, locally of course. After convincing Merkle - Organ Collector to mentor her, the Owlin follows him to cheap side where she ruthlessly rips out his throat and chest. She then provides a large fortune over to the would-be victim's family, consumes Merkle's most recent wares, and disappears into the night feeling exceptionally stronger.
That night the party infiltrates the docks once again and discovers the strange circling symbol from their earlier dream, on the side of a Walton Enterprise crate. Davwyn uses his rod of rulership to control a guard and instructs the knave to show them around the docks and even the dock boss's office. Akorah skillfully pops open a safe located behind a picture in the office inside of which she locates a ledger and a small bag of coins; the ledger indicates that Tierra Calle had been taking bribes from the Viscount. This ledger and the letter were later provided to Aaron who advises he will follow up with the necessary legal actions, he then sends them to Master Benobi or "Benjamin the Wanderer" to discover any information on the fuzzy produce.
Benobi advises that the mysterious circling symbol on the crate is the crest for the Malvidore family. From the letter and ledger Benobi discerns that there must be a connection between the Viscount and Arnon's Madness. The sage wizard further discerns that the party appears to be hunted by a nightmare hag, which fortuitously enough works in their favor as the heart of a Nightmare hag has been known to cure diseases (Hag's Heartstone). They are advised to gain strength, and seek out a cave north of the city which appears to be a nexus of Glow Plague activity. Inside this cave the party will be able to find a hag's eye which can be used to alchemically induce a trance like state. From this comatose state the party will be able to fight the nightmare hag from inside their collective minds.
Will the party be able to locate the hag's eye and defeat the nightmare hag? Will the party be able to discover the connection between the Viscount and Arnon? Will Davwyn finally recover from his eternal hangover or hang up his explorer's hat and settle down?
