Oso Meat

The thing that has kept the Oso Cooperative alive all these years is the abundance of the Oso fish in the water of the Osolet Fjord and the general value of the Oso fish meat in the world economy.   The most special, and some say magical, thing about the meat from an Oso is that it remains fresh for months. Whether it is truly magic or some unexplained method of warding off the bacteria that causes decay is a mystery, but the people from Osolet are not inclined to "look a gift horse in the mouth" and simply celebrate the good fortune provided by their fjord. In addition to its amazing ability to remain fresh, Oso meat is also considered affordable, nutritious, and delicious by people all across Kruos. It is found in countless recipes of all sorts and there is nary an inn that doesn't have its own version of Oso Stew and Oso Steaks on the menu. Hardy travelers will bring smoked Oso on the road with them when they fear they might be pushing the limit of even this meat's amazing span of freshness.   One would think that the Oso Cooperative would use the near ubiquitous nature of its prime export over which it has a clear monopoly, but since the agreement among fishermen began it was made clear that it was in the best interest of all to keep the prices reasonable and the meat available. Surely there is not enough to spend gold on in the frigid fjord that gouging their customers would be of any appreciable benefit anyway so it was a wise decision and remains so to this day.
