Human

Humans have been around for a long time. It is not known when in history they came to be, though many believe they are not one of the original species. The humans of Krotera are a very common people, and have come to live in many parts of both the main-lands and the east-lands.   Humans are known as a smart, yet more fragile species of the world. They are known as the best traders and diplomats of all, and the city known as the capital of the world is the capital of the castronian people, a human ethnicity.   There are 5 different ethnicities of humans. The most known of which is the castronian people, who are natives of the kingdom Castroba. These people are known to have light or light brown skin, depending on which part of castroba they are from. They are also known as the best traders of the world, and the capital of their home is known as the capital of the world.   Then there are the amarians, who are the original and oldest human ethnicity. These people are from the amarian jungle where they live in tribes, and very isolated from the rest of the world. They are darker in skin, and often shorter than the other human ethnicities.   The northmen are known as the most fierce of humans. They live in the cold north, in the harsh regions of the Northern isles. Here they live in tribes around many islands. They are often seen as the strongest humans, and are some of the most esteemed warriors in the world.   Then there are the sunsand legions from the eastlands. These people are the largest empire in the world, and rule over the hottest desert of all, the sun sand desert. Here they live in an empire, whose culture is based around hunting the gods. Their entire culture is based around them seeing gods as evil cruel beings, who just think they can rule over the mortals with no consequences. So they have set the goal of their people, to cleanse the world from the gods.   The last ethnicity of the humans are the ash’ka people. A poor, small region of people, native to the Ash’ka island. Here they live under the worst of conditions. They are often under attack from raiding parties from the bloodskinned horde, and many ash’karians are slaves for the bloodskinned horde.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans are seen as mostly tall, soft skinned and a bit thin, compared to other species of Krotera. Their skin is soft and can be anywhere between dark brown, nearly black to pale white. Their ears are without the pointy tip as both orags, elves and most other species of the world have. They stand on two legs, with straight backs, and two arms which are a bit shorter than the legs hanging from the sides. Humans have incredible stamina. They are built to run for longer periods, meaning a well trained human can have incredible stamina. Their arms are not often particularly strong, but what they miss in strength they have is cleverness.

Biological Traits

The size of humans vary a lot between the different ethnicities of humans you can find. Castronians are between 150cm - 180cm in average height, and around 60kg - 90kg in average weight.   Amarians have an average height of between 140cm - 170cm, and weigh in average between 50kg - 80kg.   Northmens average height is between 160cm - 190cm, and an average weight of between 70kg and 110kg   The sunsand legion is between 160cm - 190cm, and average between 60kg - 90kg in weight.   The Ash’ka people have an average height of 150cm - 175cm, and an average weight between 50kg - 80kg.

Growth Rate & Stages

Humans are a quick growing race compared to many of the other races. Humans live to the age of between 50 and 70 years, but can get as old as around 100.   Most human cultures see children as able to work when they reach between 6 and 10 of age. Though humans are only seen as adults when they reach 20 years of age.

Ecology and Habitats

The humans have all come from the same place, the jungle. Meaning humans are built to live in warm climates. Though today most humans live outside of jungles, though you will still find their being to be built for the hotter climates. 4 out of the 5 human ethnicities there are, are all native to relatively hot regions of the world. Only the northmen have moved to a cold climate, and so they are also the race furthest from the original humans, even though they are seen as the youngest ethnicity.   The five different human ethnicities are spread out in a region each. The amarian jungle, the sunsand desert, the ash’ka wilderness and the kingdom of Castroba are all relatively hot places (except the north part of Castroba that can be relatively cold in the winter).

Dietary Needs and Habits

The humans are omnivore, meaning they need both meat and plants in their diet. How they get what they need depends a lot on which ethnicity we talk about.   The castronians are known for trades, and therefore much of what they have is imported. Though they do have a lot of farming in their country. Both cattle, sheep, and chicken are bred in Castroba, and it is the biggest producer of wheat, potatoes and most other farm plants.   The northmen are known for a diet consisting mostly of meat. Their culture revolves a lot around hunting and fishing, as their tribes usually don't have much money, therefore they can't do a lot of trading. They do breed some cattle though, and are also known to forage in the cold forests of their home for both mushrooms and other plants growing in the cold.   The amarians do a lot of hunting and foraging in the jungle. They are known to do near to no trade at all with other regions (except a very few groups of tribes). But even though they don't do much trading, the Amarian jungle offers a big variety of different kinds of meats, fruits, vegetables and a lot more.   The sunsand legion mostly rely on fishing for their source of food. Though they do have a bit of different animals that they breed and slaughter for food. Though there aren't many animals that are easy to breed, and have no problem living in the hottest and driest desert in the world.   The ash’ka people are a very poor people, though they too find most of their food from the sea. They do have a few farms, though they very often get targeted by the blood skinned raiders that often come to shore in Ash’ka.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The social structure of humans has many forms, depending on what group. The amarian people are known to be very isolated, and are rarely seen outside of Amaria, though they are know to have tight bonds from tribe to tribe inside of the jungle.   The ash’ka people are also known as a more isolated people, this being more due to their poor state.   The northmen can also be seen as more isolated people, though they do trade with other regions and people.   The sunsand people and castronians on the other hand are known as excellent traders and diplomats. And therefore create strong bonds with many other regions and kingdoms.   What all humans do have in common though, is that they are in the core a pack animal. This means that they on a personal level are very social. This also includes the amarians. Humans often have strong bonds with family, but also friends outside of family. And can have strong bonds with other people from towns far far away from their own. They are even known to create bonds with people of other races more often than most other races, due to their social need in their life. This is also the reason that humans very easily get lonely if they are left out of company for too long.

Facial characteristics

One of the things standing out the most in humans are their round ears. Most other races have pointy ears. The reason for this difference is not known yet.   The human face is often also seen as more round and a bit bigger than that of an elf for an example. Another feature that humans have that not many other races have, are their many different colours of eyes. Humans can have blue, brown, yellow, green and even r

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The different human ethnicities all have their home region.   Castronians have Castroba   Amarians have Amaria   Northmen have the northern isles   The sunsand legion have the sunsand desert   Ash’ka people have Ash’ka   But there is also a group of outlaw humans that call fadiro forest their home. Here many different groups of outlaw or outcast humans live. One little village made around these outlaw humans is Raven Nest village, which is an old outlaw village located in the raven nest swamp in Fadiro forest. Here some of the best and most feared bounty hunters make their living.

Average Intelligence

Humans have their power in the brain. They are some of the socially most intelligent people. Their intelligence around diplomacy and the social construct is much better than the other races, including elves, dwarves, gnomes, goblins and even trolls intelligence.   It was humans who invented the alphabet used by most people in Krotera today, and the commonly spoken language is the castronian language.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans have great eyesight, but a rather mild hearing and a bad smell. Meaning humans mostly rely on their eyesight to traverse the lands, and find their way around. In the sense of magic humans have powers, though they are not born with a powerful magical ability like some species, though they have the possibility to learn to master magic.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

For humans there are different naming traditions for most of the human ethnicities.   For castronians the mother will choose the first name of the child, and the dad will choose the last name, often using his own last name.   For northmen they mostly name after what the parents wish for the child. Here the dad often chooses the name, and will do it as what he thinks the child will mount to become. For an example they could have a name like Johan the Slayer, giving the impression the dad believes him to become a great warrior. Some northmen even wait with the last part of the name until they get a bit older, and show what kind of talent they may have.   Amarians will choose name after holiness. And their names will often be something like “Old tree spirit” but in old amarian language.   The legion often names their children after great people. Often great people of the family, making names often go in circles in many families in the legion. For example some families will just go on turns between 4 different boy names for all boys born, or something like this.   And the ash’karians do something much like the amarians, just in their own language.

Major Organizations

There are five known major human organizations   There is the Castroba Kingdom. Which is the kingdom of the castronian people. This is also known as the biggest human organization, which is located in the land of Castroba. This land is also known as the most open and diverse kingdom.   The sunsand legion is an empire of humans. This empire is located to the east, and has what is seen as the strongest militia in the world.   The northmen are all under the union of Holar, which is an alliance between most northmen tribes. This alliance states that if any hostile action from outsiders occurs in the northern isles, all northmen will stand together to defend, even if it may be a rival tribe. This alliance is ruled by a Heaveding, who is seen as the leader of all northmen tribes, and is the only man who can gather all northmen tribes under his command. The heaveding also has the power to gather all northmen tribes to attack, if some kind of darker power threatens the world of Krotera or the wellbeing of the northern isles.   Then there is the kingdom of Ash’ka. This is a poor kingdom, located on Ash'ka island. Here they live a harsh life in poverty, just working to survive.   Then there are the amarian tribes, though they are plenty and most of them don't even want anything to do with each other. There are also different smaller organizations in the fadiro forest, both of human and other races.

Beauty Ideals

Humans have many things that they will call beauty, and it differs a lot between region, ethnicity, culture, subculture, individuals and so much.   In the north it is often seen as strength and workmentality.   Where in the south it's more often seen in wealth and styles.   In the east it is more of deeds, like what a person does.   But it varies a lot what a person finds beautiful in the human lands.

Gender Ideals

The gender ideals of humans are very basic.   It is often men seen fighting, and making sure the family has food, a home, and whatever a family needs. Where women often do the duties in the house, like cooking, cleaning, taking care of children and so on.   Though female warriors do happen. In the northern isles female warriors are a normal thing, and females fight nearly as much as men. In Amaria it is the same, with female warriors being normal.   It is a bit more rare in Castroba, Ash’ka and the legion. Though it is not unheard off.

Courtship Ideals

2 of the 5 major human ethnicities are Kingdoms. This being the kingdoms of Castroba and Ash’ka.   2 of the 3 remaining are tribe based cultures, living in tribes led by a chief. Amarians and Northmen.   And the last, the Sundsand Legion, is an empire, led by an emperor.   All human major regions are all people led by a single person. Not that courts with democracies are unheard of in this world. Both the gnomes, orcs and goblins, high elves and dwarves are in some way ruled by more of a court/democracy.   This thing with human culture often being around a single leader might date back to where all humans come from, Amaria. Where they have always lived with a single leader.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships are built up differently between all the different cultures.   In castronian culture the tradition is to be married under the temple of a god which the man and women will choose to be the god which they will live under. It is allowed to choose any of the different non-chaotic full gods, (also meaning no demigods). Before the marriage though, the father of the women will often have to accept the relationship. Meaning the man will often go to get the blessing of the father before asking the girl for her hand.   In the north they have adopted a lot of this culture, though they have changed it to fit their beliefs. In the culture of the northmen, they follow the natural gods. A type of gods which is only really found in the northmen culture. It is not known if these gods actually exist, there is no real evidence. But just like the castronians, a man and woman will choose one of the natural gods to get married under.   In Amaria it is done a bit differently. Here they dont marry under a god, but instead they have a tradition to share blood. Blood travels through the heart, so blood is the most direct way to the heart. So when a male amarian and female amarian find each other. The chief or a shaman of the tribe will do a blood ritual. Here the lips will be cut across from side to side, on both the male and female. They will then sit on their knees and kiss, mixing the blood. This is then said they travel to the other person's heart by mixing blood. This is also the reason that nearly all married amarians will have a scare on their lips, sealing the marriage.   In the sunsand dessert when a woman get to the age where she is fit for marriage, she with the help of her parents will hold a feast where all men who want can come to offer their hand to her. She will then be able to pick any of the men she wants. This is also why richer and more famous women have more choices than lesser known and more poor women.   For ashkarians marriage is often a way for a family to get food and relations with other families that might have what they are missing. Here fathers will trade and arrange marriages between sons and daughters.

Average Technological Level

The technology level of humans again depends a lot on the culture and ethnicity of humans.   Amarians and ashkarians are a very low technology based culture. Amarians are a very isolated people, which is why they don't trade with many outside people. So they don't have the knowledge that they would get from outside their tribes, and they can't trade to get the technology of gnomes, goblins or any other race.   Ashkarians just don't have the money to do so. They are in deep poverty, so they can't really trade with that many. Which is why they are very limited, to only having the most important and essential.   Northmen don't have a high level of technology either, though higher than both amarians and ashkarians. The northern people do trade with most of the other regions, giving them access to a small amount of tech from outside their own borders. They aren't rich people, so it is still very limited, but they do have a bit.   The legion has a lot of wealth, though their contacts and trades are few. They do have a small amount of trade with trolls and dwarves, giving them plenty of opportunity for dwarven technology. Which includes both guns and the metals of the golden mountains.   The castronians on the other hand have a lot of wealth and have trades with gnomes, orcs, goblins, dwarves, elves and many others. Giving them a lot of high tech (relative to Krotera). Though they dont have just as much as gnomes, goblins and a few others, they have more than any other human culture. Guns and primitive machines are plenty in the castronian kingdom.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

There are many human languages. Most of them are from the Amar language stem.   The oldest known language is the “Ancient Amarian” language. This is a very old and outdated language. I originated from Amaria, where nearly all amarian tribes spoke this language for more than 3000 years ago. It is believed that many words from this language are close to words from the modern castronian language, as Castron and his group (the first settlers in Castroba) spoke this language. Though close to none speak this language anymore, and few any at all does, it would be very old tribes of the amarian people, deep within the jungle, and well isolated from the rest of the world.   Today the normal language of amaria is “Modern Amarian” which is spoken in most of Amaria, except a few tribes with their own languages. This language is believed also to be a lot like ancient amarian, due to it just being a newer evolved language of that exact language. Though they speak the same language, some words and dialects differ from many tribes. Though they still mostly perfectly understand each other. It is known to be a hard language.   Then there is “Nordic”. The language is what is native in the Northern isles. This language is very similar to the castronian language, as it originates from castronian. Though the pronunciation is different, and many words have been remade in nordic. Many northmen and castronians still understand each other, due to the two languages being very similar. It is known to be a harsh language.   In Castroba the national language is “Castronian”. This language is also an international language, which many different other regions and people learn in school. This language has been spread across the lands due to the many trades coming from Castroba. Due to it originating from ancient amarian, it has some words similar to modern amarian as well. It is known to be a beautiful language.   In the sunsand dessert, they speak “Aaddash”. It is a language very unlike the other human languages, and it is known to be one of the hardest languages to learn. It is known to have a lot of hard words, and a special thing is that many letters will be double in words. For an example in the name of the language “aaddash” is two a’s and two d’s just after each other. This is a very common thing in many words of this language. It is known as a rather hard language.   In Ash’ka they speak “Ashkan” which is a very unique language, very unlike any other language. And unlike any of the other human mentioned human languages, it is the only one not from the amar stem, but instead it is from the Orag stem. This is believed to be the cause of the many rides from the blood-skinned orcs attacking, raiding and looting Ash’ka for so many generations. The ashkarians have then adopted a language around the same stem from those attackers. It is known as a more weird sounding language.

History

The history of humans is long, mysterious and complicated. Many things are just theories, some stuff we plainly don't know at all, but some things we do know for certain.   We don't know where in the story humans as we know them came to be. Though we do have a pretty good idea from where humans originated. Amaria. Here they lived in small tribes, and survived by hunting and gathering whatever they could find in the jungle. They lived mostly in huts which they built in the trees. Though big temples are found which are believed to date all the way back to the beginning of human history.   Later, around the year 4000 - 5000 a group of ancient amarians left the jungle for some reason long lost to history. This group is believed to have been led by a Castron, a son of an old chief. The stories tell of him and his group traveling to what we now know as Castroba, to an old Satyr fort called Mordia. Here they somehow assassinate the satyr chieftain Drim the Hungry, and trick his horde to leave Mordia. The way they exactly did this is long lost to history, but it is believed they somehow tricked the horde to go into a rampage and hunt them outside of the fort, even though they never left as the horde might have thought. After the stories tell about Castron and his group shooting arrows from the top of Moridas walls, killing many hundred satyrs before they managed to smash down the gates to their own home, getting back in.   It is then believed that the group of amarians hid away, either in some very hidden place inside of Mordia or just outside. Due to the satyrs rampage and their missing leader, they completely destroyed Mordia in their angry search for the amarians. When they finally came out of rampage and gave up the search, they had completely destroyed Mordia.   Later it is believed either other Satyr tribes, or an army of either gnomes or dwarves who had been living under the hand of attacks and raids from Mordia for many many years attack the horde of Mordia, and cause of them destroying most of Mordia searching for Castron and his group, they stood no chance under the attack.   Some time after this attack, where the horde of Mordia was gone Castron died. The stories don't spessify exactly how, though many believe it might have been due to other satyr tribes who frequently raided those lands back then. Castron was later buried where Mordia once was, and later a little village was built around his body. A little village that later evolved into the giant capital Castroba we know today. And out from this giant city came the Castronian people.   In an unknown time, another amarain tribe called Chakaun traveled out of the jungle. They traveled east, all the way through the eastern jungle, and in the end they ended up in the sunsand desert, where they formed the great empire and legion we know today as the sunsand legion. The reason for leaving is not known for surtain, but is believed to be the cause of a demigod called Ohena. An old temple of the Chakaun tribe depicts Ohena giving them some kind of promise. It seems like they told them about riches which would be found in the east, and many believe this is the reason for them leaving the jungle, for a hot harsh desert instead. This is also believed to be the reason why the sunsand legion are dedicated to their hunt against all gods, as the promise they were given by Ohena was a lie.   They later in history around year 6000 managed to capture Ohena herself, imprisoning her in a dungeon under the giant city. They didnt know how to kill a god for good, so instead they started using her for experiments, learning how gods and demigods were, and how to hurt them. This cruel touture of a demigod ended up sparking a little rebellion in the midst of the sunsand people. Some people started falling back to the old and more traditional belief, that gods might be necessary. In the start they tried fighting for this idea within the empire, though they could turn the people around, so they moved. They went to the sea, and to an island a bit further to the east, which they ended up making their new home, where they would praise the gods yet again, as their people once did. These people are what we now know as the ash’ka people. Though this didn't go as smoothly as for many others, and they never regained the strength they once were a part of, and still to this day they suffer under raiders, starvation and poverty.   The last human ethnicity to come are the northmen. The northmen are also the youngest human ethnicity, and only date back to around the years 6000 or 7000. A group of castronian sailors, warriors and traders wanted a more nature close life. So they sailed north, where they ended up in the Oragmark region. Here they met orcs, goblins and other races. The wild were filled with beasts far bigger than any from Castroba. The land itself was frozen, and would be very very hard to farm, so instead they found food in the ocean, where there were plenty of fish. Through time and the rough lifestyle came more and more tribes, and in the end they became the northmen empire we know today.

Historical Figures

There have been MANY big humans through time, doing some great things. One of the best known might be Main Kingborn. A young castronian who came to the throne of Castroba at a very young age after his father died. He started to suffer from a lot of different mental problems, but still managed to fight through it all and become one of the most loved kings Castroba have ever had.   Another big character might be Arwa, the wife of Main. A woman who came to be loved nearly, if not as much, as Main by the people.   Other great human characters could be people like Castron, the founder of the castronian people.   Ulrick the greatest heaveding of the northmen to ever be.   Annest, the only human to ever be born as a druid.   An meny meny more you will get to know as you travel and explore the world of Krotera.
Scientific Name
Homo sapiens

50 to 70 years
Average Height
150cm - 190cm
Average Weight
50kg - 100kg
Average Physique
The average physique of humans is not as stunning as most other races of the world. Humans are often seen as weak in strength. Though humans are some of the best runners, a well trained human can run far beyond that of both orcs, elves or most others. Not saying that they are the fastest for this they are not, but in stamina they are able to follow even most of the beast races, except for the centaurs.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The human body is mostly naked, though hairs can be found around it. The colour of humans vary a lot depending on where they are from. Amarians are often either black, or dark brown. Castronian can be light brown to pale. Northmen are often seen as more pale compared to others. The sunsand people and ash’ka people are mostly brown.
