Legionnaire

In the east lives some of the most fearless and proud people of any. Here lies the legion, a people known as the god hunters. Even though these people are enemies of the divine beings, they have still managed to build the biggest and strongest empire, inside the hottest and most harsh desert of the world. Some believe them to be monsters of another world, but in reality. It is just a very proud human empire. They live peaceful lives from day to day, farming, trading and all the other things most people do.

Family names

In the legion, name is everything. And the family name is the most important one. Many people are better known for their family name, then for their own personal name. Furthermore, people are often named after great people. In the belief that the name carries some of the success of the people carrying them.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

In the sunsand dessert, they speak “Aaddash”. It is a language very unlike the other human languages, and it is known to be one of the hardest languages to learn. It is known to have a lot of hard words, and a special thing is that many letters will be double in words. For an example in the name of the language “aaddash” is two a’s and two d’s just after each other. This is a very common thing in many words of this language.

Shared customary codes and values

Who you are and what you have done and will do, is all you are. This is the way of the legionnaire. This is what is most important in the legion. What you have is who you are.
What is the most valuable for the legion, is their never ending war against the gods. Their hunt to purge the world of what they believe is their tyrannical rule of the mortal realm.

Average technological level

The legion has a lot of wealth, though their contacts and trades are few. They do have a small amount of trade with trolls and dwarves, giving them plenty of opportunity for dwarven technology. Which includes both guns and the metals of the golden mountains.
From the trolls they get the magical trinkets and weapons, and from the dwarves they mainly get the mechanical weapons, like guns. And the gold.

Art & Architecture

In the sunsand desert you will find some of the biggest and most majestic statues and buildings in the world. All made with the purest sandstone, gold and all kinds of gems and jewelry. Many of these statues are means to honor big legendary heroes of their culture, or just to taunt and shame the gods.

Common Taboos

The biggest and most known taboo of the legions culture, is if a woman has no husband, due to no man showing at her feast. These women are often shamed publicly with slurs and violent acts against them. Often they dont survive long due to the rape and the attacks.

Common Myths and Legends

It is said that one day a legendary warrior will step forward. A legendary warrior known as the ‘Aahraa Maakuu’. Meaning ‘End of divine’ and he is believed to be the man who will rise up, challenge the gods and end their rule.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

In the legion, your deeds and what you do speaks more of you than anything else. Do you work in high prestige places, or are you in the low part of the society. In the culture of the legion, being a warrior is the most honorable thing. For in the legion culture, being a warrior, means putting yourself against the gods.

Gender Ideals

The norm is where the man will provide, the woman will take care of the house. In the higher places, like the army and the palaz it is also nearly only men working. Though females are not prohibited to be in the army or the likes, it is just not the culture.

Courtship Ideals

The legion is ruled by a high emperor. This emperor is in a way chosen by the army. Where an army loses respect for an emperor, they will have the power to overthrow him. This has happened before in time, under the rule of Aseel el-Mamoon, who tried to bring religion into the country. They built up a rage in the streets, and in the end the army captured and executed Aseel el-Mamoon for high treason.

Relationship Ideals

In the sunsand dessert when a woman get to the age where she is fit for marriage, she with the help of her parents will hold a feast where all men who want can come to offer their hand to her. She will then be able to pick any of the men she wants. This is also why richer and more famous women have more choices than lesser known and more poor women. The highest taboo of a woman is if no men show up to the marriage feast.
After she has chosen a man, she will then have chosen a provider for her and her future children. Then the man will be the working force, and the woman will be the guardian of the house.
