Elves

Elves are a long story of travels, splits and world changing events. There are in total 5 different ethnicities of elves. But do we go back to ancient times when there were only 1. This is now known as the ancient elven folks. These elves lived on the Dawn and Dusk islands. Here they built cities and worked their peaceful lives due to the missing dangers of the islands. They were never in any real danger. All the creatures of the islands were small and inferior to the elves. This gave the elves the idea that they must be the superior people. A believes that they later came to call “the elven truth”. This way of thinking didn't take long to grow in popularity within the elven community.   This ended up making most of the ancient elves leave the island. All who were within the elven truth ended up leaving the islands, to find a new home suitable to their superiority. This was the beginning on how the different elves came to be. First the wood elves. Then the shadow elves. Later the high elves. And finally the dark elves.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are tall thin creatures. They are missing the muscles of the bigger creatures, and the brain of the smaller ones. Instead they are creatures filled with magic, as they do have one of the biggest magical soul parts of all the races. They are often compared alot to humans in how they look. The only obvious difference is the pointy ears. But on average they are also lighter in weight due to them having on average less muscles than humans.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves are a more slow growing race then for example humans, as they also have to grow their magical ability. This means an elf would be seen as an adult around the age of 25 instead of the 20 that it is for humans. But then they also live longer lives then humans. They will live to the age around 100 on average. But elves are known to be able to live all the way up to around 150 to 170 years.   In elev culture it will depend a lot on what kind of elver it is, before they are seen as adults by the public. The sea elves will already start to work and be seen as “adults” when they turn around 15 to 16 years of age.   The wood elven culture will start to help around the age of 18 to 20 years. But will only be seen as “adults” when they turn 25 years of age.   The shadow elves will be put in armor as soon as they can wear it, so that they can give their life for Viessa. Already at the age of around 15 they will be put in armor, and be seen as warriors of the shadow elven army.   High elves have a much higher standard for what is seen as an adult. In high elven culture, those under the age of 30 are seen as children. They will start to help more when they are around the age of 20, but will not be seen as an independent and grown adult before they reach 30.   Dark elves live in a culture of dark magic. They are also a culture that practices slavery a lot. This means that children aren't needed as much to help around, unless it's poor families. Otherwise they would be seen as fit to help around the age of 20. When they turn 25 they are seen as adults as well.

Ecology and Habitats

Elves live in many different places and biomes around the world. The first elves, the ancient elves, lived on the hot desert and savanna covered dawn and dusk islands. A home with close to no dangers at all. Here the sea elves also lived for hundreds of years, before they were attacked and pushed out by the great sea king, kuku and his slither gill army. They then moved to the more tropical land of the hidden jungle jungles.   The wood elves live in the magical and mysterious forests of the wood realm isle. Where they live in cities, built on the tops of the giant trees, to get away for the dangers of the ground.   The shadow elves live in the dangerous and chaotic realm of Viessa, called the shadow dent. A place of darkness and shadows. Here they live lives of the immortal race of darkness they are. Serving their demi god lord of Viessa.   The high elves live on the flying isles. Land they ripped out of the world itself as to be elevated over those underneath them. Away from the petty dangers of the normal world, and in the sky side by side with the gods. A place they can work with their powerful magic.   The dark elves live in the magical forest known as the crystal tree forest. A place where the wood and the plants, the ground and the grass is all black as coal. While the leaves of the trees are white as the purest crystals. A place filled with wonderful and powerful creatures found nowhere else in the world.

Dietary Needs and Habits

For elves it depends a lot on which ethnicity you are talking about, if you want to know how they gather food and what they eat.   For the sea elves, their culture is mostly fishing. But they also eat all kinds of foods from all around the world. As when they plunder other ships around the seas, they will get whatever kind of food that ship would be having in cargo. Back home in the hidden isles they harvest fruits from the jungle, and trade meat with the primitive native creatures that live there as well.   The wood elves farm all kinds of greens that can be grown in the tops of the giant trees of the wood realm isle. Other than that a big part of their diet will be meat they hunt on the ground.   The shadow elves don't need food, as the pure magic in the shadow dent realm will keep them alive. This magic will keep them ready for war and for battle. Some survivors of attack by the shadow elves will tell tales about how they eat their victims afterwards. Both the dead ones and those still alive. But the truth of these stories is hard to tell.   The high elves will grow all kinds of magical plants that they use as food. Other than that most of what they eat is products that they get from trading with the castronians and the dwarves.   The dark elves will mostly get their food from hunting. And therefore will eat a large portion of meat in their diet. The greens of their diet will either be taken from the Hoggens when they travel there, or will be farmed in small fields in the crystal tree forest. Farms worked by the hoggen slaves of the dark elves.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Elves are known for their more sharp facial features compared to humans. Their long pointy ears. Their eyes, depending on their ethnicity, are often glowing with magic. The color of this glow will vary depending on what kind of elf it might be.   Sea elves are often seen with deep sea blue eyes.   Wood elves are often seen with yellow beastlike eyes, or completely brown eyes.   Shadow elves are often seen with black smoking eyes, or red glowing eyes.   High elves have light blue or purple eyes.   And the dark elves are often seen with crystal white glowing eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The different elven ethnicities live in very different lands.   The sea elves are found in the Hidden isles.   The wood elves are found in the treetops of the wood realm isle.   The shadow elves are found in the dark realm called the shadow dent.   The high elves live in the magical flying isles.   And the dark elves in the mysterious forest, the crystal tree forest.

Average Intelligence

The intelligence of elves is often compared to humans. But in reality they are not quite as technically intelligent, or as diplomatically smart. They are though some of the more magically intelligent people out there. It was, and still is, only the elves of all the mortal races that have created a way of traveling by teleportation. More specifically it was the high elves.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elves have much the same perception and sensory as humans due. Their eyesight is good. Their hearing is fine as well, but then their sense of smell is lacking more. But due to their big magical soul, they do have a good sense of magic, and will be able to feel if magic is in the air.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

The names of elves are often in the elven language. There are multiple different elven languages, and depending on what kind of elf it is, the name will be in the language that their culture speaks.

Beauty Ideals

For elves it depends a lot on what culture. For the sea elves and the high elves. Wealth and gold will be seen as a big beauty ideal. For wood elves it's more the physical and compatibility. And for the shadow elves and the dark elves it's mostly power and strength. Either in combat for the shadow elves, or magical for the dark elves.

Average Technological Level

Elves are not seen as highly technically advanced people. They are nowhere near the goblins and gnomes. But they are still way more than the primitive people like the amarians, tauruses and the north men.   But especially the high elves and the wood elves do trade with the different other people to gain these more complex tools and machines. As long as they line up with their culture and beliefs.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The different elven groups all have their own languages. There are in general 5 different elvish languages. All very similar to each other, due to all coming from the ancient elvish language.   Sea elves - Ocean Elvish, which is the closest to the ancient elvish language without being it.   Wood elves - Forest Elvish, is often known as the softest of the elvish languages.   Shadow elves - Ancient Elvish, was the first. The shadow elves still speaks this language, as that was the only language there was back when Viessa came to power.   High elves - Common Elvish, Is often seen as the ancient elvish language, with stolen words from both castronian and the dwarvish language.   Dark elves - Crystal Elvish, is known as a more hard elvish language. With many S sounds, compared to the other elvish languages.

History

The story of the elves goes back multiple thousands of years. Back then there was 1 group of elves. A group we today call the ancient elves. These people lived in the land we know as dawn and dusk island. A land is missing any greater threat. Land with good soil for farms, seas for fishing and harmless wildlife for hunting. In other words, a land that gave the elves the opportunity to live lives of luxury. This went on for a long time and in the end. It was due to this life without a struggle that gave birth to what would become known as “the elven truth”.   The elven truth is the belief that the elves are higher-standing creatures then the rest of the creatures walking around. That they are superior in value. The belief is that the only thing standing over them is the gods themself if even they do.   This way of seeing things spread very quickly, and also gave birth to the idea of moving out of the dawn and dusk island. For even though these islands had kept them hidden from the war and sorrow you would find around the world in other lands. Even though it had kept them fed while they could live their perfect lives. Elves started to see the land beneath them. And they had to move out and find more suitable land.   Quickly those who followed the elven truth started preparing to move out. And only a few were against this idea, the criminals or those who did not have the means to travel, stayed back on the dawn and dusk island. This small group would start new cultures. Would find new ways of life. And in the end, would become what we today know as the sea elves.   The group that left sailed east. And after many weeks of sailing, they finally found land that seemed to fit a god-like creature, such as the elves. A giant island filled with trees that were nearly as large as mountains. When they first started exploring the land they also quickly found out that the wildlife in this land was much bigger, stronger and way more dangerous than the wildlife of the land they had left. They started creating houses and cities on the tops of these giant trees. Both to get closer to the gods that they saw as equals, but also to get away from the suddenly dangerous wildlife they now lived with. In this new land, they also started studying new kinds of magic. Magic could help them with the trees and plants of this land. That could manipulate the plants in ways that would help the elves. Like using magic to dictate the way the branches would move and grow. Would speed the growth of the fruits found in the forest to an unnatural speed. But also powerful magic to eliminate the dangerous animals of this land. And quickly they were yet again the rulers of the land. And the idea of the land not sufficing rose again. And just like last time it ended with all but the few who didn't see themself as superior to the land, the criminals and those who didn't have the means to move stayed. And the rest moved to the north, to find more suitable land.   Those who stayed on what we now know as the wood realm isle, would change and become the wood elves of today. The rest moved north. After setting sail and going north they found land not more than a couple of days after. A different land. In this land, they found more than the normal wildlife they had seen in their two previous homes. Here they found people, not elves, but still people much more like them. These people made cities, worked, farmed and did all the other things the elves also did. But surely they weren't as godlike or as superior as the elves.   While the elves continued traveling north up the Main Lands, a new group started forming among them. A group led by the most beautiful elven girl. A girl called Viessa. Still young, and a firm believer of the elven truth. Viessa wanted the elves to rule the world. Or more, she wanted to rule the entire world. She started forming a rebellion. Started gathering people to follow her. She would use her beauty for the men, and her speech for the women. But in the end, she managed to create a decent-sized following.   One fateful night, by the foot of the golden mountains, she struck. Firstly she had charmed her way into the mind of the king. And on this night, she snuck into the tent of the king. She went over to him and woke him up. And then subdued him to lay with her. After this was done, she slit the throat of the elven king. Followed by the queen and the newly-born prince in their sleep. She then went up on an elevated rock further up the mountain and spoke out to all the elves, sleeping in their traveling tents. In her hands, she held the heads of the king, the queen and the baby prince. And very quickly nearly all the elves had come out to see what all the fuss was about, to quickly be stunned in place by the sight of the royal family.   “I, Viessa, daughter of the Vesua family, carry the seed of the King. Which makes me, Viessa, queen of the elves. I know not all of you will follow me and honor the way of the elves.. I will not kill you today if you now fail to follow me, but those of you that refuse, I promise you, you will die by my order. I will travel west in one hour, you have until then to decide if you will follow me and conquer the world, or stay and die by my order.”   Many guards tried to arrest or kill Viessa doing this talk. But nearly all of them were killed by the followers she had already gained. Only one, long-forgotten brave elf managed to get past Viessas guards and onto the platform she was standing on to challenge her. But he did not get to do anything else but challenge before Viessa lifted her right hand and shot a dark shadowy arrow like magic at the challenger. And as soon as it connected, an explosion big enough to make nearly all the elves standing within 100 meters fall back. And as the smoke faded, the body of the challenger was nowhere to find. This frightened most of the elves. And at the end around half of all the elves followed Viessa west. These elves would later become what we know as the Shadow elves. The follower of the Demigod Viessa.   The ones who stayed back. Leaderless, they quickly traveled further north. In fear of what Viessa had told them and shown them. Here they came to a weird land. Around them on land was a tropical jungle. Warm and humid air. The sound of tropical birds and monkeys worked as an ambience. While the sea was cold as ice. And further out at sea, they could see glaciers and ice. This would be where they lived for now.   The elves, now leaderless and in fear of what they had seen from Viessa, now started building their new home. And soon after this, they were approached by a weird-looking creature. Trolls. They were not friendly, but yet not hostile. They seemed reluctant to the idea that they were to become neighbors and share the jungle. But they also didn't seem to want to go to war about it. So the elves stayed. A new royal family was created. The new magic of the land was studied and mastered. And they seemed to thrive. And as they began to thrive, the elven truth belief came back. But this time it didn't lead to the elves moving again. Instead, a group of the best elven wizards to ever live had an idea. Maybe it wasn't so much where they lived on the ground, but more what they did with it. They had to get close to the gods that they saw as equals.   These powerful wizards came together and ripped the ground under their city into the air. Lifting the small city they had built to the sky. And not long after the city was floating around 600 meters above the ground, in the air on floating islands. Where these giant pieces of land had once laid resting was now a giant canyon. Caves going down into the core of the world. Water was running from the sea into this giant hole. But this was no concern for the elves because now this land was really beneath them. The trolls quickly found out how the elves had destroyed their land, and the war was declared. But the elves didn't care, because the trolls were beneath them and could do nothing. The elves could now really study and perfect magic in their rightful place. And later in time they managed to create some of the world's most powerful magics, such as portals. These elves became what we now know as the high elves.   But as these high elves created their own magical paradise, rules were set. All except dark magic such as necromancy was allowed. If you were caught working with necromantic magic, or other dark arts, you would be punished by execution. Yet one group was created in the dark. These elves would work and study dark magic away from the eyes of the law. And as this practice went on, more and more elves joined this organization which got the name, the Rosen Arts. But one fateful night, the group was discovered. But not before the number had risen to more than 500 elves. This was too many to execute, so instead, they were all banished.   After being banished, most were murdered by the trolls. But a good number of them escaped south east. Where they now traveled to find a new home. After around 2 to 3 years of traveling, the group finally found a place to live. A place to study all kinds of magic. Also the dark and twisted kind. They found a forest. A forest where the trees, the grass and the earth were black as night. But the leaves of these trees were white as the purest crystal. They called this land, “the Crystal Tree Forest”. And here they would live. They quickly created a small society. They started traveling to an island to the east, where they found a very primitive lesser race of pig-like folk. These creatures were small and weaker. And it didn't take long before the elves started capturing these people, and using them as slaves for their own land. These elves later got the name the Dark elves.
