Wood Elves

On the island of the wood realm lives the proud wood elves. With their light brown skin, yellow or brown eyes, long ears and the finest hair that can be found in all kinds of wild colors. From green as a leaf to brown as the tree. Wood elves are the elven race that have helped the most in international diplomacy and war. And are seen as the only elven race that doesn't live in isolation from the world.

Forest Elvish. Known as the softest of the elvish languages.

Shared customary codes and values

Every year. The first day of the fruit year. Wood elves will get together to harvest some of the best fruits this world can offer. And the hunters will hunt some of the best prey they can. And when the fireflies start to settle, then a big feast will happen in the city. All will come to the Harvest-Feast.
The tradition is said to bring so much happiness and warmth that the fireflies that normally light the day up in the wood realm isles will keep the light on all the way until the next day.

Average technological level

Wood elves do a lot of trading with castronians. Which means they do have some technology originating from some of the higher technologically advanced people, like the mountain goblins, gnomes and dwarves.
But they themself aren't builders of high tech machinery.

Art & Architecture

Wood elves live in cities built on the tops of the giant trees of the wood realm isles. Their houses are built inside of the trees themself. And due to some powerful magic the wood elves have learned they can keep the trees alive and thriving even when living inside them. This magic is also used to create bridges and walkways between the different trees of the villages, cities and so on.

Foods & Cuisine

Wood elven food is made of the different kinds of fruits and meat you can gather from the forest they call home. It is known to be amazing and still some of the easiest foods to make if you have the ingredients.

Funerary and Memorial customs

When a wood elf dies. The family will go to the ground and place them by the root of the tree that they lived in. And then they will stand while the tree will start to move its roots around the body, and pull them into the ground. This way the wood elf give back to the forest that they live in.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

For wood elves, beauty is found in your skill. Are you an amazing archer, a master of magic, a master of farming or anything else. Then you are more likely to catch the eyes of the other elves around. This is also why most wood elven couples are two partners doing the same thing. Two hunters, two tailors or something else. Because it's much easier to see skill in something you yourself have skill in.

Gender Ideals

In wood elves families, the difference between the female and the male is very slim. Though the mother will oftentimes take care of the children, the father will also do his fair share of taking care of the younge. The norm will be that as both parents are working, the elderly of the village will take care of the children. Which is a big part of the slim difference is gender rolls.

Courtship Ideals

In the middle of the wood realm is the tree top city of Astos. The capital of the wood elven race. In the middle of the city is the biggest tree in all of the wood realm isles. And in that sits the King/Queen of the wood elves. As of now the family of the Leafhearts sits upon this throne. The wood elves are a proud people who will follow the royal family to death if they so ask. But they are also known for not being afraid to rebel if the royal family fails them.
