Vault of Lines

Overview

The Vault of Lines is the subterranean tomb of Kir Dhi, the founder of Khit and first Adhīh̹ of Shīddūnti. It lies directly beneath the central palace of the city, at the precise geomantic heart of the Ūlākīrd Valley. According to Kir’s final directive, the vault was constructed over the strongest ley junction in the region—an area where five major earth-veins converge. He believed this point to be a “sympathetic echo of the Sphere’s structure,” and designed the chamber to both harness and harmonize these arcane flows.

Ceremonial Use

Upon their installation, each new Adhīh̹ descends into the Vault alone to “listen to the city’s foundation.” They return bearing the Scepter of Kir Dhi, symbolizing their geomantic attunement and assumption of civic stewardship.

Magical Properties

  • Ley Conductivity: The Vault enhances divination, transmutation, and abjuration spells cast within it.
  • Echo Memory: On rare occasions, Kir’s voice can be heard whispering answers to questions posed within the vault. No one knows if this is an echo of his consciousness or a side effect of the leyline saturation.
  • Forbidden Access: It is said that disturbing the Vault improperly could sever ley alignments throughout Khit, or even trigger earthquakes in the Ūlākīrd Valley.

Architecture

The Vault is shaped like a flattened dodecagon, each of its twelve sides representing a school of magic, with grooves inlaid with glowing mithril and stoneglass that channel ley energy through the room. These lines converge in the center, where Kir Dhi’s sarcophagus rests, sealed in a prism of greenstone and gold.   The chamber pulses faintly with rhythmic light—scholars believe the ley energy interacts with the crystalline lattice in a kind of arcane respiration. The walls are etched with flowing glyphs in Kir’s own hand, detailing his final theories on sympathetic architecture and multidimensional resonance.
