The Ægis of Eternity

The Ægis of Eternity – Wardens of the Immutable Stream

The Ægis of Eternity is a sect within The Ordo Aeternum, serving as both its watchdogs and enforcers. Unlike the scholars of the Ivory Spire who push the boundaries of chronomancy, the Ægis stands as a bulwark against reckless ambition—a silent, methodical force that ensures time remains unaltered and inviolable.
They are cloistered clerics, paladins, and arcane justiciars, bound to Primus, the Supreme Arbiter of Order. Their doctrine is strict, their authority absolute, and their presence within the Ivory Spire a constant reminder that time is not a force to be wielded without consequence.
The Catalyst: The Fracture of the Twinned Hour
The necessity of the Ægis arose from one disastrous event: The Fracture of the Twinned Hour, an experiment conducted 342 years ago by an ambitious chronomancer named Valerius Drust, who sought to pull knowledge from the future rather than merely glimpsing the past.
Valerius and his disciples devised a Grand Reenactment, channeling their power through the Pillar of Aevorium, but something went terribly wrong. The fabric of time itself shuddered, creating a temporal rift that duplicated a single hour within the city of Alexaria—two versions of the same hour, occurring simultaneously.
This impossible paradox resulted in conflicting realities—some saw the Exarch murdered, only to find her alive moments later; some perished in events that seemingly never happened, yet bore scars from battles erased from time. The city’s own memories fractured, leaving entire sections of Alexaria disoriented, unsure of what was real and what was not.
Though the rift eventually collapsed, time has never fully healed in some parts of the Ivory Spire, where echoes of that lost hour still manifest as faint whispers, flickering figures, or objects shifting ever so slightly from where they were placed.
In the aftermath, the Ægis of Eternity was formed. Their sole duty: ensure that such violations of time never happen again.
    Punishments for Tampering with Time
The Ægis of Eternity does not forgive violations of the Stream. The punishments they impose are absolute, methodical, and unchallengeable.
The Unraveling – Those who knowingly alter time are erased from history, their names removed from records, their faces forgotten, as though they never existed.
The Iron Seal – Those who attempt to foresee the future are sealed in a timeless stasis, neither dead nor alive, locked away within the Everwritten Vault for eternity.
The Final Banishment – Some are cast into timelines lost, exiled to fractured moments in history, trapped in eternities where time itself has no meaning.
Modrons and Servants of the Order
The Ægis of Eternity works in tandem with Modrons, constructs from Mechanus who catalog events with perfect precision. These mechanical scribes record every ruling, every infraction, and every deviation in the timeline.
Decatons (Rank 10 Modrons) serve as scribes and memory-keepers, ensuring that no historical record is lost.
Pentadrones (Rank 5 Modrons) act as enforcers, aiding in the capture of rogue time-users.
A Singular Hierarch Modron, name unknown, is rumored to exist deep beneath the Ivory Spire, functioning as the final arbiter of time's greatest secrets.

Laws

The Edict of the Immutable Stream
The Edict of the Immutable Stream is a series of ironclad laws drafted by the Ægis of Eternity to govern the responsible study of time. These laws are carved into the walls of the Ivory Spire, glowing with golden script that shifts subtly, ensuring that their meaning is never misinterpreted.
  Laws of Time's Sanctity
The Future Shall Not Be Known – No one may gaze into what has not yet come to pass. The future is a realm untouchable, and those who seek to alter it invite catastrophe.
The Past Shall Not Be Changed – What has occurred must remain as it was. To undo an event, no matter how small, is to unravel the very thread of existence.
Memory Shall Be the Only Witness – Those who divine the past may observe, but never interfere. They must never seek to "warn" or "correct" history.
Artifacts of Time Must Be Guarded – Any relics infused with temporal magic are to be cataloged, locked away, or destroyed if they threaten the stability of the timeline.
No Man May Be Two – No individual may exist in multiple points of time simultaneously. Those who attempt to duplicate themselves through temporal magic will be eradicated.

"Ordo Ante Tempus" – "Order Before Time"

Leader of the Ægis: Magister Ivaron, the Living Paradox
At the head of the Ægis of Eternity stands Magister Ivaron, a Bloodless cleric of Primus whose very existence is a testament to the dangers of time manipulation.
Ivaron was not born—he was found.
During the Fracture of the Twinned Hour, a door deep within the Clockwork Sanctum opened on its own, revealing a single warforged figure, standing motionless within a chamber that had never existed before. Upon examination, it was discovered that Ivaron bore records of events that had never happened, spoke in words that sounded both ancient and yet never-before-heard, and was already intimately familiar with the laws of time.
Ivaron simply "was"—as if he had always been part of Alexaria’s timeline, yet no record of his creation existed.
Upon awakening, he immediately took command of the Ægis of Eternity, drafting the Edict of the Immutable Stream and enforcing it without hesitation or doubt. To this day, Ivaron remains unchanging, his voice calm yet absolute, his body occasionally flickering between moments, as though he exists in multiple instances at once.
His word is law when it comes to time’s protection, and not even the Hierophant of Aevorium dares to challenge his rulings.
