Chocolate Crab Catcher Profession in Koria | World Anvil

Chocolate Crab Catcher

Overview

The profession of the Chocolate Crab Catcher was a thing during the Dragon Sun Empire and a bit after that. It was a flourishing, dangerous business until the Deep Sea Chocolate Crab ventured deeper into the oceans where the catchers couldn't follow.

Working

The problem with the Deep Sea Chocolate Crab is, that it is rather strong and will bump you so hard, that you stumble and become the crabs easy meal yourself. Even one or two bites are so painful, that it can stun every being besides a Dragonborn.

So the best thing to do: hunt the Crab where it can't charge at you. Normally you would say "while in the air", but the best way is to catch them while:
  • they have charged at another prey
  • float above the ocean floor while searching for food
  • grab them at their top shell while they haven't noticed you

When the catcher caught the crab, he tries to swim back to the surface. The crab is to be laid on her top shell and then crushed with a club if the chef or the customer doesn't want them stunned so they can chop them up themselves.

Getting obsolent

The profession of the Chocolate Crab Catcher (sometimes refered to as "crab divers") got obsolete somewhere shortly after the fall of the Dragon Sun Empire. They weren't connected, it was just the same time. The problem was that the crabs had learned that they shouldn't venture next to the surface for the most delicious food and so they relocated to the deep sea, where next to no light reaches the ground and they could make better use of their four eyes.

The more and more the crab vanished the profession vanished too. Teachers needed no pupils and nobody wanted to train their whole life - especially their lungs - to catch a really deadly crab. So it died out, slowly.

Ah, smart crabs sadly. Sounds like a very interesting - and dangerous - job one could have. I'm curious: did they use some kind of tool or their hands to catch the crabs?

Hello there. Yes, the crabs are quite intelligent. Sadly. xD Mostly their hands, it is the safest way to get them away from the ground. Nets were a thing back in the day, but mostly they bite right through it and then charge at you or away.
