Space-Time Derivative

U(n) = ( P(n) * T( E(n) ) )'
A matrix describing particle positions and states is multiplied with a time matrix that is dependent on a vector of energy values, giving a matrix of energy potentials. The derivative of this equation gives a curve that maps the continuous range of energy values that can be used to modify the time function and produce a specific energy potential matrix. In practice, the physical make-up of a universe is stringent upon these energy potential matrices, since they describe how every particle behaves in relation to time.   The theory of a Space-Time Derivative has long been held by the Grand Mages of Balepeak, but the discovery and subsequent usage of this equation was credited to Bocassius Staleus. This led to the naming of the resultant energy curve as the Staleus Curve. The Archmage realized that having access to an infinite number of dimensions would be too powerful for a single group to hold, and created the Interdimensional Protectorate in secret, including a small handful of Magisters he trusted.   The practice of dimension hopping is deceptively simple to a practiced enough magic user, however the power required to successfully make a stable portal is immense. A teleportation spell is linking two parts of a universe together to have the matter seamlessly move through the warped space. However, transmutation magic includes the field of matter, and thus energy, transformation and manipulation. Bocassius Staleus realized that if he combined transmutation's ability to modify energy, he could create an anchor to another universe by mirroring its location on the Staleus Curve and linking it to his universe through a teleportation spell. The result of this combination is an Interdimensional Wormhole, which is only stable while the magic user maintains focus on continuously transmuting the destination universe's anchor point to match its energy values on the Staleus Curve , since those energy values change with the passage of time.   An unpracticed magic user attempting this spell will most likely become consumed by the energy required to stabilize the wormhole, and a practiced user will only be able to produce enough energy to keep it open for a few seconds. The longest amount of time that a wormhole has been kept open was by Bocassius Staleus himself, for about a minute, and this effort almost killed him. It took nearly a month of rest for him to walk again, and as a result rarely attempts to dimension hop anymore.
