Sticks and Stones

History

Iliac needed a lot of soldiers and he needed them quickly. The refugees he was training needed cheap and vicious weapons to defend themselves from a cruel and unforgiving world. They made helmets from cookware, shields from boards and rawhide, and weapons from flax, sticks, and stones. Usually, any requisite iron is taken from the same slag and unprocessed castoff from which simple items such as clamps and nails are formed.

Execution

Anyone in a balatar knows how to make their basic equipment. In fact, making your own equipment is part of joining. That being said, every member expecting to go to war is required to have these items at least:

Components and tools

Balatar kit is as follows: A helm (usually a kempe kettle helmet) a shield, a stackel, a sling, and at least one bag of bullets. Some sort of armor is preferred, even if it's simply wicker or fabric armor. Some sort of sidearm is normal and preferred, usually just a hatchet or an heirloom dagger.

Participants

Balatar kit is designed to be easy to make and cheap to mass produce. That being said, it is easily purchased from merchants who bought it from war plunder or from smiths and carpenters that usually keep a good stock of it just in case.
