Second Mexican Civil War

The Second Mexican Civil War began after the death of Emperor Vicente I. It was fought between the supporters of Augustin Jerome Iturbide on the conservative side and Maria Guerrero on the liberal side.

The Conflict

Prelude

The conservatives had been defeated by the liberals, backed by the Kingdom of America in 1827. When Emperor Vicente I died under mysterious circumstances, House Iturbide played on people's prejudices of having a woman on the throne of Mexico.

Deployment

After the resumption of the conflict, Empress Maria Guerrero had the loyalty of the military. Though many senior advisors did so out of respect for her father and dedication to the throne than any true love for her. However, as she commanded the military, she held the professional advantage.   General Augustin Iturbide commanded the military forces of the conservatives. With the disadvantage in professional might, the conservatives attempted to maintain a stronghold in the agricultural regions. However, the conservatives were able to maintain a fotthold in Mexico City, an endeavor that would continue into the future.

Battlefield

The battles were small and brief, though numerous. The conservatives were defeated by the superior numbers of the Americans and the liberals.

Aftermath

Maria was declared ineligible to take the throne on account of her gender. Instead, her son, Vicente II, was named emperor with Maria as regent until he came of age.
